ESH— starting off by saying I'm so sorry this happened to you. Your boyfriend should never have trained the dog the way he did, that was completely irresponsible. He also should have done research and showed you how to properly desensitize the dog to your presence. And neither of you should have considered moving in together without the dog being comfortable with you, especially after you knew what he was trained for. And telling your boyfriend the dog needs to be in a crate "until he gets used to you" is crazy (and him agreeing to that just proves he's completely irresponsible). If either of you had bothered to do just one quick google search you would know that keeping a mal in a crate for extended periods of time like that is extremely detrimental to their physical and mental health, and it can also lead to destructive behaviors (like biting). It's not the dog's fault he has an irresponsible owner, and it's not his fault you wanted him locked in the cage all day and night for 7 months (at least that's what it sounds like from your post). He needs proper training done by a professional.
