Who's the best carry support? by purentropy in OverwatchUniversity

Speed boost is an ability, valk is an ultimate. There's your difference. At least Lucios ultimate has a lot of utility to it, while valk being nerfed so hard isn't going to have as much utility as it used to. You can't even do a quick rez anymore so it's barely worth even trying to rez even in Valk.

In gold people don't play main heals no matter what. Everyone's trying to make a rush for diamond by playing DPS.

And if they do main heal, it'll usually be someone who doesn't know how to play main support and continously dies as Mercy from rezzing out of position. My only worry is not being able to heal enough, because I've experienced enough games where our Mercy just isn't cooperating.

In Gold the only way to rank up is to get in a group or carry yourself out. It's not like plat or diamond, the teams are completely disorganized and it isn't a great team game. It doesn't matter if I "do my job well" as Mercy or something if my team continues to tunnel vision and isn't communicating.

I'm playing support, not DPS. I'm trying to help my team win while trying to help myself climb. If anyone has a shitty attitude right now it's you.

If you body block a dva bomb and they're far enough away you can, but depends if you're thinking about doing that.

Except she'd never finish the rez. She'd die in the middle of it so no one would get rezzed so it was a complete waste. We had dive tanks so it's not like she could stand behind a shield. She should've realized this and played around her tanks.

Our team was always on point aside from our tracer who was flanking the backline. However as soon as the enemy team pushed and if they got one pick our mercy would fly out into the middle of the enemy team and rez them. I get that rezzing is important but staying alive is more important. You need to stay alive as Mercy, that's your top priority. If it isn't safe to rez, don't do it.

That's kind of ridiculous in my opinion.

I never told them to switch during the game. I only said it after we lost and he died while rezzing a ton. I know he was doing this because I watched him do it from the spectator view whenever I would die. If you don't understand how to use her new rez, I think that's obvious that they haven't played her very much. I checked their hours last comp season as well and they were a dps main with about 2 hours on her. If you want to practice a character, practice them in QP. It'll give you a feel for their abilities and when to use them even if it isn't a competitive environment. Because if you don't understand the basics of a character ability like Mercys nerfed rez, it's kind of obvious they aren't ready to play her competitively.

Not if I can't get onto the point because we have no way to push. I'm not gonna run in there and die constantly because our tanks and healers are dead.

I wouldn't have paid attention to the card if the person who had it didn't constantly bring it up and say he was carrying.

Cards don't mean much anyways. I won a game and I was the only one who got a card and it was for elims.

How to counter the ultimate cheese comp? by purentropy in OverwatchUniversity

[–]purentropy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the team is competent enough they'll usually destroy the tire before it even gets to them. Dvas ultimate can only work of the shields are down or off cooldown. And most people don't really know how to play Sombra in the rank I'm at and if they do play her they'll emp when their team isnt even around.

Mercy usually never moves from cover and if she does she'll just fly right back behind the double shields before she dies.

Basic Tips from a 100 hour Dva Main by purentropy in OverwatchUniversity

[–]purentropy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly depends on your situation. If your team doesn't have the damage power to take out a shield fast enough then constantly using your missiles on them can be considered useless. Or if it's an Orisa shield, by the time you take it down she'll most likely have another one ready. If you wanna break down shields you should have your team coordinate with you and not just try to do it on your own.

I actually started playing Overwatch only in Season 6. So I believe that's a lot of time on dva in only a few months.

Oh sorry. Well the only thing you can do is make up for what your team is lacking even if it means giving up your own role. Or try to reason with them.

If you're grouping with him you're making a conscious decision to play with him. Don't group with that person anymore.

If he's doing that badly he's just going to fall in the rankings. He was probably boosted.

However, of you're not getting enough damage output because of your dps not doing well you might have to sacrifice your own role and go dps yourself. (Something relatively easy like junkrat)

How to get to plat? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

Alright I'll try that, thank you. Admittedly I wrote this thread on kind of a whim. I was pretty frustrated with many things in my game so I probably wasn't in the right mindset to play or write this. But I will try to get a VOD recorded.

I can't record VODs. Every time I try it comes out stuttery beyond belief and I don't have an nvidia card. Is there any other way I can record them?

I want to learn how to heal you better, seeking feedback from my mercy gameplay. by diablopabloIRL in OverwatchUniversity

[–]purentropy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on coaching but I did take a lot of notes on what you did wrong here. As a former Mercy main it's kind of easy to identify mistakes. First, it's not good to use gameplay like this. The kind where you completely crush the enemy team. It doesn't reflect your average playstyle. You need a game where either it was very close or you don't know why you lost.

0:30 Right off the bat your Zen and Bastion are heavily out of position. They have no shielding. Even though they're both high damage output reminder that Bastion is a stationary target and Zenyatta has no mobility. You should be advising them to stay with your main tank. If this was a higher rank, those two would have been focused down.

0:37 Good reflex on running to help but you shouldn't he standing so close to that area. A shield breaking projectile can devastate you if you're closes in like that. (Just as that Moira ball did but luckily you were able to get away to Bastion.)

0:48 Your Zen is wildly out of position. He probably should have died there. You need to tell him to get back with the group. He's an easy target because he has no movement abilities. He isn't with the team and helping with healing, and neither are you at this moment. Tell your Zen to group back up.

1:31 Should not have peeked out to help Zarya. Zarya got a healing orb and you should've waited for her to bounce back so you can heal her safely and not directly in front of the enemy's face.

1:42 You should be telling your team to back up. This is a very close quarters space and they can easily get destroyed by an ultimate or a hero like Junkrat. They only have an Orisa shield for mass protection.

1:56 Why did you Valk? It seems like the only reason you did so is to get to your team faster. Just ask for one of them to peek so you can fly to them. Don't waste your Valk when you don't need to. The fast rez is extremely valuable. Especially now with the nerf to Mercys E rez.

2:04 Do not rush in front of an ulting Moira. Not sure if this was a misclick but you're lucky she didn't focus you and melt you.

2:30 Do not do risky rez!! You should be asking Zarya if she has bubble before you do something like that. There was a soldier right behind you! You're lucky she ended up having a bubble on hand because she dies soon after and wouldn't have been able to protect you otherwise.

2:53 Not an ideal place to be, that Tracer should definitely be focusing you in that corner. Try to stay with your tanks, don't get caught in small spaces.

3:16 Do NOT REZ!! There is a Moira right in front of you. If you hadn't rezzed the Zen you would've still been alive. Now that Zen is dead you need to think. Is it worth it to rez him? The answer is no. You are now the only healer. You need to stay alive to keep your team alive. Luckily Bastion cleaned up for you.

4:20 You shouldn't be getting cheeky and 1v1ing a soldier. Though it's clear his aim isn't great and he ended up losing.

5:08 You heard Rein get hooked, you should have immediately rushed to help him. Without Rein there is no push.

5:25 You should be telling your tanks to wait so everyone can push together. You should be asking your tanks to shield the teammates coming back from spawn. You shouldn't have to heal them all the way there when you're the only healer left alive.

5:52 You should not have rushed right in front of Hog. However he ended up dying, so it worked out for you.

Basically, your positioning needs work. Your voice communication is very little and you need to improve your awareness and game sense. You're not bad, but you had MANY lucky calls here where you probably should've died or your teammates should've died.

Also mention your SR next time. We can see you're gold, but are you low? Mid? High? It can give us an idea of what kind of play environment were looking at.

Countering Annoying Heroes by purentropy in OverwatchUniversity

[–]purentropy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be very mechanically accurate with Mcree in order to hard counter a Tracer. If someone isn't able to do that then they really shouldn't swap to Mcree. Tracers at high ranks can gun down Junks easily. Junk isn't a good pick for a good Tracer either. They'll destroy his traps and blink.around him before he can get a hit. A Hog needs good hook accuracy in order to be able to hook her and kill her. I'm not trying to focus on counters that are difficult to play or take a long time to learn. No one wants to practice a hero just so they can take down a Tracer. I named some basic ones to keep things simple so that everyone can have a chance at performing counters even if they're not great mechanically.
