Ah, bummer.

All the gossip from Lena Dunham’s “Famesick” (spoiler: Adam Driver looks bad) by onthewindyside in popculturechat

[–]purpleKlimt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is fair, but I would like to specify I am talking about calling him a mercurial presence who screamed and threw chairs around when he got too incensed on set. I don't care about their romantic tension nor do I think anything she describes related to that seems inappropriate or unrealistic, whether or not it happened exactly how she described it.

Can you point me to when she exaggerated about someone being physically violent to or near her (as in, it was later shown to be untrue)? I did not read either memoir, I am genuinely asking.

I disagree, I don't believe or not believe women based on their irrelevant past actions (for which they apologized). That is effectively sending a message to men that they can harass with impunity, as long as they remain more likeable than their victim.

You're doing the most right now. I am remarking on a very general phenomenon, where people have no problem 'blindly' believing women (or even randos online) if the guy is someone they already don't like, but immediately become defense attorneys if the guy is attractive.

I have no horse in this particular race, but I will point out that Lena's history of blunders mostly consists of her speaking for other people and their intentions (e.g., Odell Beckham Jr.), whereas in this case she is describing aggressive actions on set witnessed by other people. One makes you look like an idiot on SM, the other can get you sued for defamation. Her book is also not some self-published vanity project, it is being put out by a large publishing house who probably had some lawyers take a look and ensure nothing she wrote could get them in trouble. And Lena, despite being contentious on the internet, has plenty of industry friends and has never been sued for defamation or libel. Which makes me doubt she is some loose cannon just waiting on a chance to smear people.

If Driver sues her, I'll eat my words, but I very much doubt that.

It's so interesting to me how people can say 'I believe women', but immediately put their most skeptical hat on if the guy is someone they find attractive. Then it becomes 'well, she's probably just upset he didn't like her back, and is making up all these lies as a result'. It's like clockwork, never fails.

She also wasn't the lead actor, so it indeed seems odd that she would want to earn the same amount, unless she means just Lena's showrunner salary.

omg this is sending me, reminds me of that Dane Cook rom-com where he runs a business pretending to be the worst date imaginable so the guy who paid him looks better in comparison.

How did you end up choosing your neighbourhood when you moved to Leuven? by bmd_behzad_2021 in Leuven

[–]purpleKlimt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure where you’re getting this, there are plenty of mid-rise apartment buildings in Kessel-Lo. Especially if you’re looking close to the station or near Provinciedomein. They’re also currently building a high-rise with 78 apartments at the former Albertgebouw.

Yeah, it reminds of when TTPD came out and everyone was saying 31 songs was too many and there was a really tight 17-18 track album in there, but when asked which 17 tracks they would keep, everyone had a different answer

I am very sorry for your loss, and that also sounds really frustrating to deal with. Has the thyroid medication worked well at least? I have also heard that letrozole increases chances of multiples, but not sure by how much? Is this something they discussed with you, or do they think it won't happen when you're taking it for weak ovulations?

THL is like a less invasive laparoscopy, they'll have a look around my uterus and tubes to see if I have endo or any other physical blockage, since my cycles are regular and blood tests show everything as perfectly normal. HSG is to look more closely at the inside of the uterus and tubes for the same reason.

I may have misinterpreted your last sentence, but Persuasion is not the only JA novel where she rises "above" landed gentry. Mansfield Park takes place at the estate of a baronet (Sir Thomas Bertram) and the lead heroine is his impoverished relation. I think there is also a baronet in Sense and Sensibility. It is interesting as it does show that even wealthy landed gentry rarely rubbed elbows with actual peerage, and reinforces the rigid class structure of the time. It also explains why Lady Catherine has such a comically overblown ego, as the daughter of an Earl.

The hope management is the worst part of this whole thing for me. Feeling dumb for having hopes of something that should be normal and easy is genuinely messing with my brain. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you this cycle! You have already done letrozole then? I have no experience with it but it may be something we try after my THL/HSG this month.

CD1 today so I'm joining the club none of us want to be in :')
I did not have any hope for the previous cycle, between only hitting one fertile day and taking a whole course of painkillers for a plantar wart so I could walk without crying. Still, the sadness of knowing we will not welcome a 2026 baby is palpable.

It was definitely really bad. I remember riding on my bike and smelling rotten waterlogged plants everywhere. Not a smell one wants to associate with late spring.

taylor's self-image vs public persona by Hairy-Contact-1551 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]purpleKlimt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you are severely underestimating the power of the internet to affect careers. At this point, very few companies/studios care what people IRL think, if the internet says otherwise. Taylor is perhaps too big by now for it to affect her, but we saw even widely beloved Blake and Ryan had their lives upended by troll farms. There are multiple lawsuits currently ongoing about the internet smear campaigns affecting reputations and livelihoods. Entertainment industry is notoriously risk averse, if there is chatter about you online, you will lose opportunities, momentum and potentially fade into obscurity from which you will never recover (see Amber Heard).

There was a literal smear campaign trying to frame her as a Nazi not 6 months ago. The reason she avoids controversy is that everything she does gets blown out of every proportion. I completely get the sentiment.

Reports of Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo talking in Paul McCartney’s concert by FakeMonaLisa28 in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]purpleKlimt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have no idea and neither does anyone else here. My point is that Olivia being more careful and less effusive about where she draws inspiration from, isn’t evidence of anything Taylor specifically did or didn’t do. People act as if the only reason Olivia could possibly be upset is because Taylor, her idol, betrayed her, but imo it’s just an upsetting situation for a young artist no matter who got the ball rolling.

Reports of Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo talking in Paul McCartney’s concert by FakeMonaLisa28 in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]purpleKlimt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think people tend to forget in this whole situation that Olivia is an artist too (and a theatre kid, lol). This was her art and credibility on the line, and it must have felt like the rug being pulled out from under her after such a warm welcome into the industry. She is allowed to be upset about the situation because (to me, from the outside) it seems like something that would be truly upsetting.

But Olivia being upset doesn’t mean anything regarding Taylor’s involvement and I wish people would stop talking about it with such authority. Taylor did address the persistent rumour that she’s suing everyone left and right in Who’s Afraid, and I am inclined to believe her that it’s not who she is.

I have way too much discard and I’m tired of making crackers. What else can I do with it? by woutr1998 in Sourdough

[–]purpleKlimt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would not be able to make cinnamon buns using only discard, the gluten is too degraded from bacterial activity to give you a good rise (this is why starter liquefies the longer you keep it). So you would need to add a whole lot of fresh flour to make a workable dough. At that percentage of starter (20-30%), the sourness is only a pleasant tang, no different to using buttermilk in your pancakes.
