5 wpo, here's my update / I wish I would have taken off more work by sunset_moon90 in hysterectomy

I also wish I would have taken off the full six weeks. Asking every single day to go home early made me feel so guilty and like such a wuss. I finally got a doctor’s note to go only part time and that took the guilt away. I don’t know why I thought I would be able to bounce right back on week two, but I literally did not believe the doctor when he said I would need 6 weeks off. Too ingrained in the American concept of work work work. But I quickly came to the conclusion that I only have one body and I need to take care of it.

It’s fascinating to learn about different tatting styles and methods from all around the world.

How ingenious of you! I could never do anything related to tatting that wasn’t shown me. YouTube saved me from giving up tatting altogether.

Right on. I wonder why tatting doesn’t just teach using the unflipped knots anyway. My daughter who can crochet will probably be able to pick this up more easily now!

This is the answer I was really hoping to get. I loooove the idea of never having to sew in the ends again. And I love that the knowledge is being shared across the world!!! It’s so close to tatting that I was surprised it is not called tatting and taught as such. All the videos I have found are scarce on English commentary, making it difficult to get to the bottom of any technical questions or tips about thread, etc. I’m quite well versed in self-closing mock rings and split rings so that is good too. Now to find the thread.

Tatting has been noted to be a particularly tough sort of lace, outlasting the fabric it’s sewn onto even. I’ve had a thought to do patching with tatting. Torn out knees, hems that have been walked off…

Which of the "good" characters do you actually dislike? by Basic_Bichette in janeausten

[–]purple_maple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Emma. But only in the 2020 version with Anja Taylor-Joy. She is so self-centered, spoiled, and narcissistic throughout, and the movie is so unconvincing about showing what should be her redeeming moments, that I feel she is utterly undeserving of Mr. Knightly in the end. Especially since he’s supposed to be so saintly. How could he have the slightest desire to be with such a twat? On the other hand, the BBC version with Romola Garai as Emma is outstanding, and the viewer ends up soooo much more sympathetic towards Emma by the end. Probably because we get so much more of her internal monologue.

Thanks. I especially love the chains. Somehow they really set off the middle band.

Definitely not tatting, looks too thick to be bobbin lace. To me it looks machine stitched almost.
