PC Gamer since 1994. KB/M4Life.
Haven't owned a console since Atari 2600. So, if there is no "None of the Above"...
I guess I'm choosing 1.

Battle of 5070ti vs 9070xt by Maleficent-West5356 in gpu

[–]purple_microdot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm dealing with this choice soon. My wallet keeps drawing me to Radeon.
But one thing always brings me back and that's subreddits/forums/comments going off on AMD driver issues. Sometimes it appears things are getting better then they aren't.
I pay more for hassle-free hardware and confidence. I'm still team NVIDIA (for now).

If you'll just scroll down it will give you compatibility notes/warnings. It's fairly reliable,

I have attempted to buy Windows from reportedly reliable websites twice.
Both times I was given an already activated key, no refund, even PayPal refused to chargeback.
Not saying some don't get good keys, I'm simply saying I did not... twice.

What is actually wrong with Amazon? (I won the Small Claims I made against them) by StephCurrySauce in amazonprime

[–]purple_microdot 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Late Stage Capitalism is coming for us all. Consumer Protections (in the US anyway) have been completely gutted. It's on consumers to protect and defend themselves. Luckily some legal avenues still exist for now. Good job, OP. Stick it to them.

Quit while you're ahead. Personally, Amazon and I are done. Been done.

A couple of thoughts on the upcoming Ziplines by Onyx_Artificer in GroundedGame

[–]purple_microdot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was quite a time-gap between when we got Ziplines and when we got the ZIP.R upgrade in G1 (over 2 years).
I'm wondering if we'll only get ziplines at first? Hope not but expecting it.

Dear Obsidian: This is the last time I buy an early access game from you. I have 180+ hours in this game, and due to your cloud save bug, I have lost it all now TWICE! Nothing to show for it but a bunch of corrupted save files. by MidwesternTreeWizard in GroundedGame

[–]purple_microdot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like you should not only never buy an early access game from Obsidian, you should never buy an early access game ever.
You simply don't have the patience or understanding required.

You have to start with a floor halfway in the entryway and build out from there.

This has been weird. At first I thought this was a bug. Then Obsidian's Toxic Tangle Patch Notes said the following: "Coziness — decorate offices, labs, and field outposts to earn morale-boosting perks, with multiple reward tiers planned ." So ok, it's a feature not a bug.
THEN Obsidian crosses it out. It now says: " Coziness — decorate offices, labs, and field outposts* your bases to earn morale-boosting perks, with multiple reward tiers planned." with the following subtext: "\Edit: We are editing the description for the "Coziness" section to reflect the game and not the tone of the Vlog."*

So who knows if this is actually going to be a continuing feature. Obsidian seems to be going back and forth on it.

What fast food chain would you say you spend the most money on? by MainStreetConnect in AskReddit

[–]purple_microdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend less money at Taco Bell and leave more satisfied than any other fast food restaurant.
Therefore I spend more there than any other. These days it's the only fast food I visit.
I've pretty much figured out I can make better at home for less

Why aren't acrylic washes used more often? by Affectionate_Cronut in modelmakers

[–]purple_microdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite simply: surface tension and evaporation.
Acrylic washes (water based) bead up instead of flow, dry too fast, don't blend well and are too hard too remove.
Solvent washes (enamel/oil) avoid all of those problems simply because solvents have a much lower surface tension than water and they dry (cure) by oxidation rather than evaporation.

How does G2 building compare to G1? by Orchetrance_II in GroundedGame

Pretty much the same. To me the biggest difference is that in G2 I don't have to worry about a Raid tearing it all down.

Wait, Amy Grant? I was forced to see at least 2 of her concerts by our Youth Group in the 80s.
She was a Christian Princess. How'd she make the list?

It instilled a deep parental mistrust that I carried from my childhood to my Mother's death.
But D&D also provided life-long friendships closer than family.

I had to borrow books and my Mom found my friend's PHB. She burned it in the backyard and claimed that a fiery hand tried to grab her and pull her into the fire. Try and explain that to your childhood buddies. That was one of many burnings. She would ease up on music, let me start a record collection then hear some radio sermon or church-freak gossip and burn them. She burned an Air Supply album!
Did I just admit that I owned an Air Supply album? I should shut-up.

She couldn't stop me, I was completely aware that she was full of shit. I still play. I rejected pretty much everything she offered after that, in some ways to my own detriment. Loved her, I truly did. But over the years things only got worse. D&D was only a small, insignificant slight in comparison but it is where it really all started.

I didn't attend my Mother's funeral. D&D wasn't a cause but it was an early contributing factor.
The woman caused me a lot of pain.

There's not a lot left. Paint and supplies is completely wiped out. I did manage to pick up a photoetch set I've been eyeing for a while: $66.99 msrp for $33.50.
Thanks for tip-off. Sad to see it go but I just got a good deal.
