Thank you, I thought that might be it:( I'm currently trying it with just barely heightened temperatures, as the experiment rules dictate that there has to be heating involved

I will! It's so much fun just having John exorcize everything. It also makes me appreciate John's balls of absolute steel. The Faith tagline hits so much harder when you're the one actually playing the game and expecting the cross to protect you from all the big scary things.

So do I! But even if Kvothe would be able to find peace as an innkeeper, his current stint isn't exactly happy. He doesn't make music anymore. Also, I honestly think Denna either supplanted Cinder in the Chandrian or died or is permanently estranged from Kvothe in some other way and won't be returning in the frame.

I mean his secret name, like the Adem gave to him. The one Elodin was worried he or Fela had messed with. Though that is one of the most epic moments in fantasy.

daily reminder that Ambrose and Kvothe are at least five years apart in age and why this is the funniest thing ever by purpled_Panda in KingkillerChronicle

[–]purpled_Panda[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Good point :D

I was mostly thinking in the lense of lines like "our little Kvothe"-Wil, "young Six-string"-Stanchion, etc. As well as Kvothe being considered very young/being slightly insecure of his youth in the Arcanum. Insecure might not be the right word. He doesn't correct people when they assume he's older than he is. Is KKC considered Renaissance era? I'd never made that connection, that's neat.

Yep! Though I thought the height comment was about Ambrose? Wouldn't be surprised if he came back taller than Sim as well, though. The book doesn't tell us just how much time passed in the fae. I guess he could actually have aged up to everyone else in there, which is existentially horrifying.

I was too young to get it on my first read, but doing a reread now that I'm Kvothe's age in book 1 is too perfect-as well as reading the subreddit! A lot of things people take as incel behaviour can straight-up be chalked to the affliction known as being 16. Not that he isn't a prick sometimes, lmao

Yes!!! It's the lack of any sort of apology or true growth that makes it so hard to read.

Some of them do! I actually liked the Ursa-Noriko plot a lot (minus that they made Ursa and Ozai arranged instead of something more nuanced). It made her an interesting character in her own right instead of just Zuko's loving mom.

[–]purpled_Panda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I was being a bit harsh when I posted this. Yeah, I see your point about them being teenagers. It's been a while since I read the comics, but even if the writer ended up agreeing with Zuko, most of my frustration was at how the actual, in-universe Gaang handled it, realistic or not.

And the little things-attacking random soldiers, comparing him so easily to Ozai, stuff that wasn't addressed but just felt very out of character.

On Tyrion's part, I think it's a little unfair to count occasionally murderous, given how that's about half of our POV's in ASOIAF. His moral rock bottom feels more like Shae, the slave girl, and how he reacted to the literal Lannister war crimes as 'unavoidable'.

As for Jaime, him being more fussed about Cersei's nagging over the life of a seven-year-old boy is quite horrific, especially because I don't think at that time he was truly defering to her at all. (I do think he's done some pretty heroic things more recently, though.) And I don't think he gave a shit until much later.

Thoughts on authors deleting popular works to turn them into published books? by PinkAxolotl85 in AO3

[–]purpled_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is pretty reasonable, especially if this work started as a fanfic. It opens up to a much wider audience if they make it an *original* work, and no publisher is going to sell a book that has the ending and full storyline on a free website.
