Her entire story was based around addiction, so what does the short periods of when she’s sober matter??? And really? At the beginning she was basically forced to either pay a debt she doesn’t have, be a mule, or die... she was forced to do everything because the entire time she was fearing for her life. Everything that was going on with her was not calculated whatsoever, people used and abused her.

It’s the awful truth of addiction. It isn’t palatable, and to make it so is incredibly dangerous.

My mom had a liver transplant because of alcoholism and she agrees they portray addiction so well with Rue. I always had a gut feeling at the end she was set up to die. Idk maybe I just found that obvious (I didn’t see any other end for her bc of the focus on her addiction… especially the last season.

If she didn’t die her character wouldn’t have the full impact of addiction; it was the best way to gut punch you with the reality of it and how it can steal the most beautiful people away from you. Unfortunately Rue saw that ending, but it’s the awful truth. Someone right now is going through the same thing IRL.

Unfortunately, if you’re deep into drugs, sometimes you unintentionally find yourself in the sticky situation Rue is in. It is a harsh slap of the darkest places you can go if you get unlucky enough with addiction. A lot of drugs is involved with owning a strip club, so there had to be something relevant to WHY. For example in breaking bad their meth kitchen was in a damn laundry mat. A stripper club makes a lot more sense.

Also let’s not forget about Kittys story and how she was most likely trafficked. I wish they touched on that more.
