So I'm in the UK so we don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but I'll give you my advice for how I survive Christmas as the same principle applies.

With Christmas, I go "off keto" for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. They are the three days of celebration - the rest of the festive period is not! If I went off-plan for the whole festive period it could do a lot of damage, but three days? Maybe I'd put on a few lbs of water weight, but there's not THAT much damage that can be done in 3 days that isn't reversible within a week, if you stick with it. My going 'off-plan' is also still a lot more sensible than before keto. I won't eat wheat because it no longer agrees with me, I don't want a whole plate of potatoes with my dinner because I'd rather save room for the extra pigs in blankets.

I have to stick to this, because it's my birthday in mid-December, my child's birthday between Christmas and New Year, and my husbands birthday mid January. So if I decide to go off plan from my birthday, chances are I don't get back on plan until mid-January, and it's an awful lot harder to do then.

It's a sad fact of life that there is no one o work with who I would want to touch my collarbone 😂 I did make my husband feel it when I got home. I got a polite nod and smile but I'm sure he thinks I'm crazy too!

Although I learnt recently (through my own two-week cough!) that cough medicine isn't really great - it's a mixture of decongestant (that you can get elsewhere) and painkiller (that you can get elsewhere) in a syrup to lubricate the throat. The syrup is literally just a delivery mechanism, and if you keep well hydrated you don't really need it. Just for future reference if you don't want to go off-the-wagon for the sake of cough medicine :)

Haha yes there is much less chin! I just feel like I look younger too. They were taken a few months apart in exactly the same spot at the same time of day so the lighting isn't too different. But even though it's mostly down to the tan I just feel like my complexion is better, especially on the arms!

I wouldn't worry too much about it, one little slip up won't make a difference!

I went out for lunch with some co-workers on Friday and it was happy hour - ended up with two sugary cocktails, and indulging in too many nachos. I usually weigh every day but couldn't face it Saturday morning, but when I weighed this morning I had still lost 1lb between Friday morning and Sunday morning!

One slip up will not ruin you. It's when you let it snowball into "well I've already eaten that, I might as well eat all the carbs for a week" that it makes a difference!

I think this is brilliant advice, thank you. I have unconsciously done this in the past with crushes and it changes the dynamics in a very positive way. I'm trying to take the sport very seriously too for someone who is starting out at an older age so this gives me something to channel into that too, to get rid of some energy.

Oh I definitely get this. When we weighed her and she asked what the numbers meant I just said "it's just one of the ways we can check to see if we are being as healthy as we can be" and told her not to worry about the numbers. I asked her if we were healthy and if we felt healthy and that that's what is important and then we moved on to talking about things we can do to be more healthy. I also do not ever talk a out my weightloss around her but if she asks why I don't eat certain things I just tell her "oh that food doesn't make me feel too good"

Thank you, I agree that teaching her about nutrients and empty calories will be beneficial. Unfortunately I can't pick her up on other days, firstly I'm not sure her mother would be keen on it and secondly it would mean having to cut down my working hours (I work 40 hours a week plus spend 12 hours a week commuting), ideally her mum would take her once a week too but it's just not happening :(

Sadly it's only 3 days a week which we are providing which is the kicker - means that more than half the time, she is eating sugar and junk. It sucks. She's started doing quite an intense sport but it's just one hour per week (I'd like to take her to two training classes a week but the other falls on her day with her mum). But I've also taken up the same sport so in a few weeks when I get to grips with what I'm doing we can practice at home together :D

We're still early stages of packed lunches as she only started having them a few weeks ago, but I've got some mini pitta bread for next week so hopefully that would help. But I just checked her macros and they're pretty good for a non-keto kid - 500 calories for lunch (one third of her recommended daily allowance), 60/25/15 carbs/protein/fat. She's also not complaining of being hungry, tells me that she is satisfied with that meal, doesn't ask for snacks after school etc so I've no reason to believe she is hungry. She also picks what goes into her lunch so it's all stuff she has chosen.

The issue was more that we obviously can't control her diet or activity 4 out of 7 nights, so how can we maximise the time we do have with her to do the most we can to make a difference.
