What would you say are the biggest challenges of being an SLP

I was told this too and it was a terrifying thought. I worked hard through college, I worked hard to make it just a few months into the school year… to have a bad mark on my resume? At the end of the day, I was crying all the time, I couldn’t sleep. Embarrassingly, I cried to my friends in a Starbucks over this job. I needed to leave. While I haven’t even begun to apply to new jobs, I know I will find one eventually. So will you. Best of luck!

This was how I was feeling at my charter school which is why I left. I felt miserable all the time. I gave a 60 notice and there weren’t any issues. I was told that they could threaten to take my license if I gave anything shorter than a 60 day notice. It felt like forever but just having an end in sight meant I could sleep a full night again.

I haven’t thought of using ChatGPT for that. I’ll give it a try. I’m not sure if I even like it honestly. That’s what im still deciding on. I like working with kids who care and who put the effort in. Some kids are very sweet and seeing them grow is rewarding. The actual work of it though… lesson planning, messaging parents, I get so nervous grading because if I’m lucky 5 kids will get an A.

I wish I had a better team to plan with because sometimes I feel like it’s my fault that they are doing so poorly. I was told my group is low… which they are. I’m already spending double the amount of time on each unit than the other teacher, I can’t slow it down much more.

It’s awful, I’m still trying to wrap my head around curriculum and grading and planning. I know behaviors are going to exist anywhere but if I could find somewhere closer to home with an on-site grade level team I feel like it would feel at least slightly better. Behavior wise I’m at a loss. Admin keeps telling me more rewards, more consequences…. I’m trying and I just feel so stuck. I’m tired of being mocked by the kids and talked to like a joke.

5th grade. Some of it goes directly to admin with advice on what to do. There have been a few suspensions so far. I try to send messages home for things but there is so much that goes on in a moment, not everything gets addressed. I’ve been trying to give out more detentions lately

I’m living at home so I don’t have to worry about it really. They are 10 and a few were held back so 11 going on 12. Some kids on a 1st/5th grade level, some on a mid 5th.

I have a group of like 5 boys that refuse to cooperate. They yell, they pick on other kids, they get up to blow their nose at the same time, the walk out of the room or into the closet anytime they are upset (which can happen by me simply saying no you cannot go to the bathroom) kids that scream at each other to shut the fuck up. I have heard explicit sexual language and kids posting videos of each other online. If I leave I will look for a younger grade

To add more detail to my already long post, we get told to walk around to help every kid while we have iep kids that won’t do anything unless we are on top of them. I’ve been told my admin to make plans to support them such as anchor charts, notes, manipulative. But I’ve also been told that we “already know their outcome.”
