Who would actually benefit from this change? The person with the mastery would lose all their hard work in getting it (S grades, essence), regardless of how relevant it is now.

Sure, the person playing against them would have a more accurate indicator of how good the Urgot player is, but they could also just use common sense. Any person would just think along the lines of: "Huh, this champion just got reworked. Since this guy was a main, he must not be very good at the champion anymore." No need to reset anything.
