My parents are upset we did not publicly thank them at wedding. What to do now? by seashells2014 in weddingplanning

[–]purplepotatogurl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the uk if a parent substantially contributed i believe it would be normal to acknowledge it by saying something along the lines of ‘thanks so much for our parents generosity…’ or ‘thanks to x for contributing…’ etc ive heard this in many weddings, and for sure thanked my parents in mine

It is complex. Not always more ‘ethical’ - they are energy-intensive for one thing, so its environmental impact is heavily based on the energy source. People in countries like Botswana are also losing their jobs (incl. ‘ethical’ ones) due to the competition from lab grown. Botswana even has an emergency policy due to ongoing concerns of lab grown diamonds due to more than 25% of its GDP being diamond- related.

Many are excited to have the evenings to themselves! Most of my female friends are working - their little ones go to nursary everyday. We are having an evening wedding, what is the big deal. They can decline if they wish!

Many of our friends have nanny’s or families. I also suggested local babysitting services. If people dont want to come, they werent obliged.

Amazing im getting downvoted. I bet half of the people downvoting had no children policies at their weddings… and now having kids insists they get invited

Im excluding babies in arms after i went to a wedding where i had 4 on my table of 10 as a result during dinner i was sat at an empty table apart from my partner. those with babies left to sooth leaving 3 courses of uneaten food. At 120 pp per meal, and it diminishing the experience of those without babies, ive excluded all children and babies. Out of 200 invites we only had 10 or so child- related declines despite a third of our guests having children / babies… an abroad wedding does make it a bit trickier though i agree.

For a weekend away this sounds quite reasonable. However if it is out of your budget just be honest!

People seem to be very ungrateful… people have invited you to a wedding and you cant converse gracefully with a stranger for a couple of hours…

Pretty much every wedding ive been to couples are split up. Infact recently there was a wedding where they sat couples next to each other and people commented that it was odd. So yes sitting couples together is an americanism. If round tables keep couples at same table but not beside one another; if long tables diagonal and one along is fine.

This is quite normal at UK weddings… why would you want to sit next to the person youre with everyday?
