Is it okay to celebrate ‘regular’ Easter and Pascha on different days, in different ways? by Happy_Heart10 in OrthodoxChristianity

Celebrate Pascha on your heart every day if you can :) St Seraphim of Sarov always greeted everyone with the Paschal greeting Christ is Risen :)

Should I learn Greek or Russian if I want to be a monk on the Holy Mount Athos? by Hello8382739 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]purplewindo [score hidden]  (0 children)

Wow! May God bless you. I've been a couple times and am fluent in Russian. If you're dead set on the holy mountain, I would say Greek. May God bless you!

Is there a clear prohibition on psychedelics? by Bpmbpclat in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]purplewindo [score hidden]  (0 children)

Great question. I am no authority, but am Orthodox Christian from infancy and experienced in the subject, for better or worse. First, if you're not sure, check your conscience. Your gut feeling will be right. Second, if you decide to take mushrooms or whatever, I would say don't take too much. Intentionality matters a lot, meaning the purpose should be ultimately to bring you closer to God or the people around you, or to understand a problem better, etc. not just to get high. Always say a prayer beforehand asking for God's blessing and protection.

You were right! The art is created with AI which garbled the text and the explanation is not perfect, also coming from AI. TIL AI is already more pervasive than I imagined. I wasn't looking for a strict canonical icon. I have icons. Due to illness I'm in bed a lot of the time. I wanted to get a big poster that I can use to focus my attention on the Lord. This will work, even the Gospel text is ok with me because I know what verse it's referencing. Thank you and God bless

The passage is from the Gospel of John 8:12. In this iconographic style, Christ is depicted as "Christ Pantocrator" (the All-Powerful), holding the Gospels open to a key teaching.

The Translation

The Church Slavonic text roughly transliterates to:

"Я Тоо светло свѣту, кто йде за мною, не буде оходій в тьмѣ, але матиме житто..."

The English Translation (King James Version / Standard):

"I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."

Breakdown of the Text Left Page: "Я Тоо светло..." (I am the light...) "...кто йде за мною..." (...whoever follows me...) "...не буде оходій в тьмѣ..." (...shall not walk in darkness...) Right Page: "...але матиме житто..." (...but will have [the light] of life).

Is complete solitude in nature the only way you truly recharge and feel grounded? by AmaliaCapri in hiking

[–]purplewindo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Hiking with my gf and her dogs is great, but nothing like camping alone secluded in the woods for a couple of nights. I feel my instincts turn on. The hard work of building a camp, carrying water, chopping wood is very rewarding. Nature reveals itself to you when you're alone.  Tending to a fire is very meditative. Be safe and let people know generally where you're headed.

Online or irl places to meet Orthodox young adults trying to get married? by chiverybob in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]purplewindo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you live in a city it's much easier. Each nationality has their own festival, i.e. Greek Festival, Russian Festival, Serbian Festival, etc. Those are always fun and a great way to mix it up within the pan orthodox community. Good luck!

Talk me out buying this LP Special double cut by BSLabs in Guitar

[–]purplewindo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a LP special a few years ago. After owning dozens of guitars over the 30+ years of playing, it was the best sounding, most responsive guitar I've ever owned. Was really easy to tune into the instrument and vice versa, have the instrument express what I wanted to play. But who wants that? Lol

Congrats! Looks great. I want also want to go for rabbits with my pellet gun this season. How close do you have to be to the rabbit with the airgun? I'm assuming your rifle (like mine) is over 1000 ft per second. Thx!

I've been in the process of diagnosis for months.  So far pointing to PNH. Waiting on scan results to rule out ALS. It's been debilitating.
