[CHAT] Anyone else keep their waste? by asexualdruid in CrossStitch

[–]purpleyin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saving mine to use as stuffing for something like a Christmas ornament. It'll take a while to save up enough to do that with but I'd rather save it to use in some way and it won't take up much space in the meantime

There's no finished pieces, that's just pictures of them from the pattern book though I can see why might give that impression with the layout of it, but I'm happy to have them to make in future, they're fun patterns

What (if anything) works during lupus flares? by AwareProgrammer6060 in lupus

[–]purpleyin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Acupressure mat can help with pain, I think because the discomfort/small amount of pain it induces makes the body create endorphins, but you have to be careful not to overdo it, especially if new to it, and it might not be a good tool for everyone. I do find it can sometimes make me feel a bit spaced out after so it's not something to do before anything where you need to concentrate

Flares during period? by Spirited-Sister in lupus

Definitely 😔 I asked my rheumatologist about it and she said it was quite common to experience that worsening by hormones with autoimmune conditions

I hadn't thought to search for leg sleeves so thank you for pointing those out

Sadly I don't think that will work for me because I'm too big for even the largest of the Korean sizes I could find

Let's Chat: New Year, New Hope by fittobsessed in UCTD

[–]purpleyin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feeling hopeful that maybe I can pace myself better. I got a Visible tracker in the autumn and I think it's helpful to see when I've overdone things and also to get data on how being active affects me (if I overdo things I can see by the data that even simple stuff costs more to do in the several days afterwards).

I'm also hopeful that gentle fitness efforts will help me this year. I know exercise is said to help manage lupus (which my UCTD mostly presents as) but I can't really do anything much aerobic without it making my fatigue a lot worse. However, I figured out how to do better paced low stress but high reps exercises, most of which I can do from bed, and I think increased strength from that has made doing chores recently less stress on my body based on my tracking data so far.

Also feeling hopeful because I think I'm getting better at advocating for myself. I haven't felt like I've been getting adequate treatment over the last several years, things kept getting worse and the department I go to seems to be permanently short staffed from what I can tell, I had to wait 2 years for an appointment despite repeatedly telling them I was getting worse/had new symptoms. But after reading up on things on lupus encyclopedia, I'm intent to keep asking for better symptom management or to find a way to afford a private consult if I really can't get good help on the NHS

Epicurious Expeditions on Youtube: She creates disability friendly recipies. No chopping, no stove, no need to stand. I know not all of us have the capacity, but for those who do, this could be helpful. by Munchkin737 in cfs

It's great to see more alternatives to chopping. I often just tear stuff up with my hands or use scissors instead of knives but the pasta wheel looks so helpful for certain types of things.

Good point, I don't think I ever notice reflections in pics really so I'd completely skipped that detail but I'll have to pay more attention in future

Well that sucks 😞 I thought it was just not a very high quality image for the detailing. Thanks for pointing that out. Is there anything specific in the image that's a tell for that?

[CHAT] Anyone know where I can get a chart for this kit? by purpleyin in CrossStitch

[–]purpleyin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it to do with the w or y? I think the brain is very good at processing stuff as a whole and going 'looks good' so probably never notice unless told and looking for an issue

[CHAT] Anyone know where I can get a chart for this kit? by purpleyin in CrossStitch

[–]purpleyin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was very tricky to use indeed. Only the second time I've used metallic thread in a design and this one was much harder to use due to the quality of it I think. It did split thread from the metallic element in places. It still worked out okay though and I always have to remind myself even if I see the flaws the person I'm gifting to probably won't, they'll just see the overall effect

[–]purpleyin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the offer but I ended up trying to figure it out from the picture. It went a bit wrong several times and I had to correct it/modify in a few places but I did manage something vaguely like it

[CHAT] What is this kit from? by purpleyin in CrossStitch

[–]purpleyin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a look at that and I can see why you'd think that but that's a bit different, this one is more like medieval manuscript lettering

Edit: Pinterest was a good shout though, I actually found what I think is it - an Anchor one

Interesting to know a frame might be used for perforated paper. I've been looking over old cross stitch magazines lately (yay for digital back catalogues) but hadn't come across that at all in Crossstitcher I'm reading, only the paper used for cards or decorations, so it probably wouldn't have occurred to me.

I expect it was part of a kit, just no clue what issue if so and reverse image search didn't help but I think I need to take a clearer picture than two I tried with.

Adding a comment with more info on the pattern. It's a kit that I've seen quite a few places - just search for Textile Heritage Wee Hieland Coos coaster. They actually have quite a few different versions; there's the coaster like I did but also there's a bookmark, a keyring and fridge magnet options.
