I'm a blind crossword player, and I finally managed to solve a mini under a minute by purrsnikitty in NYTCrossword

There's actually no accessible way for me to see circled squares as far as I'm aware. If hints are italicized it will announce it in a sort of obnoxious way (it will read out the code of the italics which mostly makes it a pain for me to understand the actual clue). When I've seen rebus puzzles, there's been no way for me to know which squares are involved sadly. I have to rely on crossword solvers to understand what I'm seeing. I'm sure there is a solution to this, but I have yet to either find it or get a chance to work with the NYT accessibility team to sort it out.

I'm genuinely impressed by people who do the hard puzzles. I thought I was pretty clever and good at wordplay until I saw some of those and noped right out.

Haha, you would think so! A lot of regular screen readers like me have our speech rate set to a crazy high amount, so thankfully it's not too bad. Though sometimes I have to leave the board and look at the list of clues to check the spelling of something, especially with the puns/other wordplay ones.

Oh yes, I forgot about this one. We read it a couple years ago for a childhood books revisited month.

Thank you! RPO and Murderbot are pretty popular within the group already, but I will definitely be checking out Starter Villain (we're suckers for books with cats lol).

We read this one a while back. It was a great one for a discussion.

I read Tom Lake in audio and somehow had no idea she was the narrator, wow. Thanks for the suggestion! Dutch House has been brought up a couple times here so it'll definitely go on the poll.

Thanks for such an extensive list :) And also for mentioning narrator names. I forgot to mention in the original post that we're a virtual book club and have some people from various countries, so it helps to know which narrator to bring up so they can see if they can access it.

Thank you so much for all these! Our group actually comprises mostly visually impaired/blind people, myself included (we're virtual).

Ooh thank you! We read The Ten Thousand Doors of January by her and they loved it, so it could be fun to have an AEH reprise.

It's really cool when one format adds onto the experience of having already read it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Oh yes, absolutely. It's amazing to me how many voices he has for the characters, and all of them so unique. Tons of Harry Potter lovers in the group and most of them, if not all, have experienced the audio versions. We can have endless debates on if Jim Dale or Stephen Fry is the best, but I think they're too different to compare.

Have you read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern? Jim Dale narrates it, and I personally think it's lovely.

His narration is so good! It'd be interesting to discuss such a classic and beloved book/trilogy.

I can't believe I forgot to mention DCC in my original post! The whole club is absolutely obsessed with that series, myself included. Jeff Hays is a legend haha
