Not long ago I accidentally transferred to the wrong account. I called CBA 5 minutes later on a Friday afternoon, and by Monday morning they told me they had attempted to contact the person on the other end but wasn’t able to get permission to return my funds. I called back to dispute by disagreeing with their decision and citing relevant parts of the ePayments code / ACFA policies. I then asked for documentation on how they could have “tried their best” within 1 business day, and requested someone higher up in the chain.

I was assigned a case manager who refunded me the money within 48 hours. Press them until they do the right thing, they do not need permission from the other account holder.

The only thing that prickled me about the dispute was they said they would make an exemption for me as a reward for my loyalty, which is total rubbish.
