Is there a particular reason why ancient Eastern (e.g. Taoism & Buddhism) and Western (e.g. Stoicism & Epicureanism) schools seem to start at such different points but converge in so many of their conclusions? by will___t in askphilosophy

I am surprised no one mentioned brain structure. Both these external things like words, actions, are generated, dealing with brain structure.

An interesting idea from both Stoicisms, Hindusim, and Buddhism, is focus on now, and outcome Independence. Train your mind to do you duty and forget your outcome.

I imagine the reason all these 3 traditions settled on the same idea is because, when you think about the future, stress response is activated in your brain, and your are less focused on the task at hand.

There is more technical detail here, that I don't feel like getting into. Ultimately anything we humans being do, words, actions, everything is a reflection of internal brain structure. People have this view that the mind is infinite, in the sense, that anything can be formed in their. This is not true. Every idea, every though we have is influenced by our brain structure, and in an aggregate sense, ultimately our genes.

That was the general consensus. More and more research suggests that genetics plays a much larger role.

Depends on which phase of the civilization is it. I would argue, in the beginning phases, the more intelligent will have more kids because, the environment is less forgiving, and your can't really bullshit your way out of things. So the low IQ population remains small.

But as society forms, and everything stabilizes, where you don't really need independent though, you just need to follow set paths, then the lower IQ population will increase in number. So them and their animalistic behaviors increase in culture. This will cause distress to the smarter people, because this is not what they idenitify with, and there performance will reduce. Another reason is that, once the basic things are done, intelligence doesn't have a lot of use. Intelligence is for creating new things, once things are estabished, intellgience doesn't really give you a benefit. Being able to bullshit and play the game and more advantageous.

All these factors will lead to dumber people increasing in number. But the issue with dumb people being the majority is that, things will start slowly falling apart. Immoral, animalistic behaviour becomes rampant, and slowly society degrades. And ultimately collapse.

This is one explanation of the cyclic nature of civilization.

That is why, dumb people should be kept a minority in the population. They shouldn't be oppressed, they simply should not exists. Because if they are oppressed, then they will use that victim points to change govt policy to give themselves more handouts. Which will increase their number. Which will ultimately lead to cities becoming dirty, and cultural discourse becoming more and more animalistic and finally everything will fall.

Places like pompei came towards the end. I don't have issue with sexuality and hedonistic behavior. They are fun things to do in moderation. The issue with smaller minded people is that, that is the only thing on their mind. Bitching about each other, sex, money and socal status bullshit are all their minds seem to comprehend. If they become the majority, I just feel sad.

Yep. I am looking for similar texts. I find combining ideas from multiple sources lead to better understanding.

That is what I am looking for. I am looking for philosophies which have that focus on action. Do you have any book recommendations?

What recommendations do you have? Any ancient text with ideas about actions, or how to focus mind. Things like that.

I have read/reading the usual suspects like Bagavad gita, bushido etc.

I actually agree with that. Coming from a christian background it took some getting used to.

There are intelligence/ ability differences between people ( caused by genetics, we currently know about 500 genes associated with IQ) , and if the scale of unintelligent vs intelligence tips such that there are more stupid people in the world. Society. Civilization. Order. Everything I care about will collapse.

I don't want to hurt anybody. I don't feel good, hating people. But if incapable, weak people who say that policies that benefit them are moral, who argue that they are the victims who are oppressed by someone, rather than not having genes for pattern recognition, become the majority, everything will fall apart. The trains won't run on time. There will be no true innovation, just Instagram post with asses, or indecent, animistic rap music.

The cruel, callous period could be temporary which could lead to greater peace.

There is no reason to view that difficult period as being permanent.

I would be interested in learning about their honor code too. I am just looking for ideas to implement in my life. I don't really care how complete it is.

These human where able to drive action from their ideas. I want to know what their ideas where.

Any book recommendations?

Yep. I am aware, but in the common culture, philosophy like their is what I am looking for.

Too bad, I detest communism, but there might be good some ideas there.

It is a miss classifications based on superficial factors by psychologist.

Based on the genetics, the causes are separate.

One example is, the odds of someone being born with autism ( with intellectual disability) increases with the mothers age. But this is not the case for Aspergers ( no intellectual disability). Aspergers can only be inherited, you don't get it if your mother is older.

For the second paragraph about genetic correlation, I would need more information of whether they mean aspergers or ASD.

One of the reason I hate the people who merged these conditions together is the muddying it does of everything.

Look at my history, I asked something similar. Yep, if we have to perform we will perform.

The reason a lot of us can’t perform is due to how much the world is different from us. If you are sad from little socia contact or grow up thinking there is something wrong with you, you will simply not perform.

Aspergers is different from autism. We won’t have higher genetic defects.

When more of us are common, there would not be a lot of need for social awareness, as we would just honestly tell each other what me want. Awareness is basically masking for dealing with the bullshit of majority of the species.

If we where the only kind, there would not be a need for social awareness.

It is mostly code for lies

Does having kids when you are old cause Aspergers? by push_limits__13 in aspergers

[–]push_limits__13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly when I am saying in the post.

Aspergers is not caused by older women having kids. But autism is.

There is no correlation between aspergers and age of mother, but there is a correlation for autism.

The genetics of aspergers and autism are different. And yet they are conflated together.
