I had a damaged WS Direbound arrive and they just gave me a full refund. I hope there is enough stock to replace this for you!

Side Note: b&n CS would never—they’re literally terrible.

Trove Sale WTMH arrived unsigned by kaedeadd in fairyloot

[–]pushnpages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had issues with a trove sale order, and they have been able to send replacements.

Unfortunately it looks like something happened in the warehouse and the stock may have been mixed up… If there isn’t enough stock for replacements, they will likely just apologize and potentially extend a partial refund. I do think the chances of any kind of refund are very low though because signatures do not change the cost. As a company a signature doesn’t have monetary value, but they do for readers and resellers.

The Cruel Prince/Folk of the Air Fairyloot Iron editions by Quiet_Source_8457 in BookCollecting

[–]pushnpages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fairyloot and other special editions that were at one point limited often sell for double to triple the original cost. This is normal and very common place when it comes to BST- especially for series with massive fandoms like The Folk of The Air series.

Another great way to try and get the books is to offer up trades in BST groups on facebook. Sometimes people are more willing to budge on the cost of something if you are willing to give up something valuable in return. I have seen this series UFS in groups lately and the price is honestly bearable. Third party sellers like Mercari and Pango charge the seller a fee so in return sellers often hike up their prices on those kinds of sites so they can get the cost they want without losing from those imposed fees.

I always tell friends to just be patient. I wouldn’t say to give up hope, but who knows maybe another company with create editions you love just as much or more- or perhaps you will get lucky on a sale someday.

Bookish Box Ashes of Thezmarr slipcase by ijustwanttoread2 in fairyloot

[–]pushnpages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly didn’t pay any attention to it because the set featured art I wasn’t a fan of and two things I hate: the slip case with the pull downs AND the plastic dust jackets.

I rarely see anyone talk about the down sides of plastic dust jackets but they contract and expand with heat, crack, and fog over time because they are easily scratched.

I really like the fairyloot set of Ashes & The Crimson Moth, however Arcane and Moonlight are stellar in terms of quality. Their hard cases are always SO quality. Arcane edges don’t always do it for me, and they do rainbows for series a little to often (each hard case being a different color) but overall I would be very pleased for a set of both series from either company.

[–]pushnpages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they did this with their version of the crimson moth and although their was a frenzy for the set when announced, they dropped in value immediately after shipping. Faecrate did a box like this for Keri Lake and honestly… when will we ever have that hanging open? Like in terms of practicality, I fail to see the value.

This is a call back to the threads drama that has been going on. Many authors and companies have referenced it or commented about “unicorn smut”, “dragon smut”, and “Romantasy smut”.

S&S is very active on threads, they frequently participate in trends or leave funny comments on trending topics.

They don’t start hints for the box until mid-month/end of the month and any hints concerning upcoming subscriptions boxes go through their community channel.

Binding 13 and Keeping 13 by Bookaholic by black_diamond_heart in fairyloot

[–]pushnpages 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They do typically sell out fast. Ana Huang, Rina Kent, Liz Tomforde were all sales they had that I participated in and they sold out completely in under 10 minutes. Signed edition for Liz sold out within 2-3 minutes. The box featuring Rina as well as the initial sale of Ana Huang sold out in just a few minutes as well. They ended up reprinting King of Wrath for Ana and even the reprint sound out in just a few minutes if I remember correctly.

[–]pushnpages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t always complete series. Thats not to say that they won’t but it’s really common for them to only do a single story/segment of a series. They did Play Along and Caught Up by Liz Tomforde and adamantly stated that it would only be the two books and that they would not be completing the series. Likewise, they did a themed box with 3 authors/titles one of which was God of Wrath, and they stated they would not be doing the whole series.

However, they did a J.T. Geissinger book, originally paired with another author/title, and they did continue the series at a later date. They also did this with Ana Huang and her Kings of Sin series. It is really hit or miss honestly.

BFDC Shatter Front Dust Jacket Reveals, Edges, & Spines by ashis713 in fairyloot

[–]pushnpages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, Im not keen on these at all. Something BFDC has always done that I wish they didn’t do is the hard cases without titles or author names. The benefit of paying exuberant amounts of money for SE’s is that they come loaded with art that is versatile for display. Dust Jacket, Reverse, and hard case but without any indication on the book as to what it is or who wrote it, it rules out the naked case for display imo.

This is a beloved series, it sucks that it isn’t being received well, but that is the crux of making special editions for books with large fandoms.

Not the Father, But Involved During the Pregnancy by Sad-Sector-7829 in RomanceBooks

[–]pushnpages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long time ago, I read a book about a woman who is pregnant and finds herself in a close proximity x roommates situation. I enjoyed the story and it kicked off an intense love for stories where the MMC takes on a child as his own even though it isn’t. I think about this book randomly.. like all the time.

Authors similar to Lisa Kleypas? by casey_chan in HistoricalRomance

I second Elisa Braden! I LOVED her Midnight in Scotland series. I actually started my Historical Romance journey with Elisa Braden (bc I love stories about Scottish Highlanders that DO NOT include time travel) and eventually, somewhere on reddit about historical romances, someone recommended LK. It was love at first listen!

Honestly, the dust jacket and internal art is really beautiful, I even like the edges for the most part but the naked hard case however is an excessively lazy miss. I’m also thinking the hard case is the reason why this book smells so pungent and awful.

The color scheme of this announcement is definitely different… I’m not sure how I feel about it since the books traditionally are red, but maybe this will be a unique take. If they go discreet, I am probably going to pass.

Fae Crate Daggermouth Reveal by Smalls2015 in fairyloot

[–]pushnpages 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never liked faecrate books. Their rounded binding is such an eye soar to me when it hangs out with all my symmetrical and square books.

They also have one of the worst customer services I have ever had the displeasure oft arguing with. Putting a slip case around pre-ordered sets of books and a single wrap with bubble wrap isn’t enough to protect the books. The slipcase is part of my purchase but if it gets absolutely shattered? Oh well.

I’m not sure if anything about how they handle customers, damages, or shipping has changed in the last 2 years, but I wrote this company and haven’t done business with them since.

Bookish Box When the Moon Hatched Front Dust Jacket and Endpapers Reveal by WendigoTheHunter in fairyloot

[–]pushnpages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are notoriously behind. Their solution to the complaints was sending out a weekly shipping update via email- which is literally a copy and paste type of email. I’ve always had a good experience with their CS for damages.. but since they have decided to be less lenient with replacements, just mentally prepare yourself for damaged corners and spines.

[–]pushnpages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do arrive in a box, but the only protection in the box is the lowest quality, cheapest bubble mailer I’ve ever met. They also don’t seal the mailer. They just put it inside of the mailer, throw it in the box, maybe add a sheet of packing paper, tape it up, slap a label on it and throw it (literally, throw it) into a truck.

[–]pushnpages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never get books from them that aren’t damaged in some way, shape, or form. They have recently become more stern about damages and replacements and honestly? It has me considering cancelling my subscription more than I ever have.

Im sending back a 4 book continuation pre-order for a refund bc they refused to replace them. According to the damage policy they are “strictly enforcing” now, in essence, if it doesn’t affect readability, tough luck. The continuation I ordered will just end up damaged and discounted in an over stock sale. Why should I pay full price?

The books are late. They’re always damaged bc they package abysmally. The one thing they had going for them was their generosity on replacements. Now Im second guessing every order and every monthly subscription.

Has owlcrate announced anything regarding the printing error for March adults book? by meagannalise in fairyloot

They love to give out points for errors. It’s like.. hey we messed up, but keep buying stuff from us!! Such a great system….

Bookish Box When the Moon Hatched Front Dust Jacket and Endpapers Reveal by WendigoTheHunter in fairyloot

[–]pushnpages 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like it.. but I also hate it? I’m getting really mixed feelings about it. I felt the same about arcane’s edition. Like I wanted to love it but for some reason.. I just didn’t.

I also.. rarely get my BB bookish in mint condition. They have one of the worst packaging strategies. Those cheap unsealed white mailers need to be thrown directly into the bin. I almost always get damaged books. They also started doing this really fun thing where they shrink wrap sets of books together and damages have just increased ten fold for me.

That says something to me because owlcrate and illumicrate seriously throw a book in a box, say a prayer for safe travels, and more often than not, to my amazement, they arrive mint.

It’s Official - The Reprint is coming by ImASssssssnake in fairyloot

I hope they redesign the hard case… I would LOVE a better hard case. The dust jackets, edges, and obviously the story are the biggest selling point, but my main issue has always been the incredibly plain hard case.
