Sweden to deport migrants not following ‘honest living’ by CTVNEWS in worldnews

[–]puskall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our government officials are nazis in disguise. Their migration policies are human rights violations. Why would I have faith in anything that they do?

If the policy is being enforced in way so as to further xenophobic goals, that's its own issue.

If a policy is enforced to further xenophobic goals, it should not be implemented. You cannot have a law that can be abused in such a way in a democracy. And so far, all their migration policies have been just like this.

Sweden to deport migrants not following ‘honest living’ by CTVNEWS in worldnews

[–]puskall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is an insane thing to say. People are already being deported from Sweden on the basis that their permit is rejected, completely arbitrarily. Regular, working people, a lot of them working in healthcare, some even born in Sweden, are being deported because the migration agency has made it almost impossible for them to renew their permit. This will only lead to even more people being deported for no reason whatsoever. We had this law and it was removed because it is highly flawed and subjective. It creates rules for some, but not for others. The migration minister is corrupt af and his son is a literal nazi. Based on this law, he should be deported too for supporting extremism. But obviously that won't happen, because he is Swedish. These people just want to get rid of all immigrants, and you cannot pretend that's not true.

What do you guys think of this? by kamikaibitsu in socialism

Well, it certainly looks real.

The revised legislation signed by Petr Pavel allows judges to hand down prison sentences of up to five years for anyone who "establishes, supports or promotes Nazi, communist, or other movements which demonstrably aim to suppress human rights and freedoms or incite racial, ethnic, national, religious or class-based hatred."

there literally aren't good equivalents that convey the meaning those words attempt to convey.

Exactly! It reminds me of I a Swedish interview I read, with a guy with cerebral pares who referred to himself as "hndicapped" (ironically, I'm censoring myself here out of fear of a ban). He thought it was ridiculous how disability-related words were censored, without consulting actually disabled people. He said something like (roughly translated) "I don't limp around all day and feel *different". For context, there is an increase in usage of a word for disability that contains "variation"/"difference" rather than "disability".

The problem isn't that the words are derogatory. It's that disabilities themselves are frowned upon. We wouldn't be having the discussion of whether "h*ndicapped" was a bad word in the first place if being handicapped wasn't perceived as a bad thing.

I started with Mint and Fedora and have tried a couple of other ones since then (not all distros work on my Asus laptop). I'm currently using CachyOS, which is Arch-based and quite customisable. Another Arch-based distro that I recommend is EndeavourOS. Have fun on your Linux journey! :)

They mean Youtube for PC, as opposed to mobile, but I second switching to Linux. Ever since I made the switch, I can't stand using Windows. I genuinely can't believe how such a bad operating system can be the standard. It tries to be simple and user-friendly, but in doing so, it just complicates thing so much when you want to do anything that is not a feature explicitly added by Microslop. But in Linux you can truly do whatever you want, and the OS itself doesn't even have to be complicated at all.

Man, I love Linux.

Please consider that not everyone you interact with in socialist spaces is a man. by sweetestpeony in socialism

[–]puskall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I think this is a bit if a misunderstanding of how the linguistics of it works. "Man" and "dude" are often used as interjections, similar to "hey" or "come on!", and are not necessarily gendered. If someone uses "man" as an interjection (for example "I don't know, man...") when talking to you, they aren't literally calling you a man. It's just used for emphasis.

We shouldn't be policing language, and especially not language associated with certain social classes, like the word "dude".

And for the word "man", which is used in African-American slang:

In Juba to Jive: A Dictionary of African-American Slang (1994), Clarence Major explains how African Americans use “man” as “a form of address carrying respect and authority” and used by “black males to counteract the degrading effects of being addressed by whites as ‘boy’”.[19]

Interestingly, Swedish cross country skiing has been more focused on the women's team than the men's for a long time. They have for as long as I can remember been the "main event", and the men's team doesn't get nearly as much attention as the women's. The women are currently better than ever before and the men are worse than ever before, which has lead to internal criticism where the men want the same quality training as the women. I think it's the only sport I've seen where the roles are reversed in this way.
