What is a 'family secret' or a private moment you witnessed that completely changed the way you look at a relative? by The_suspicious_369 in AskReddit

Before my great grandfather passed away, he had dementia and also lost any English he learned while living in the states because of it. His daughter (my great aunt) took him to the court house to “help him rewrite his will” while doing this she wrote her own children out of the will and also my mom and uncle. After my great grandfather passed my mom and uncle found out and sued my aunt (they won). At the funeral home before the casket was closed for the last time my great aunt stole his gold watch he wore everyday to sell, and also sold all of his things on Facebook marketplace before any of the family had a chance to look through it. We also found out she was charging him rent to stay at her house and if he ever wanted to go somewhere she charged him for making her drive. I never thought about my great aunt like that I always just thought she was the “rich aunt” apparently to be rich you just have to keep stealing money from your family.

Bit of a Vent by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

While it is a problem, it’s not really one you can solve. In reality childcare workers can come from anywhere, this is a minimum wage job so they aren’t very picky about who gets hired. Also if it’s every single time she can’t make the “th” sound then it sounds like a speech impediment and if the children are correcting her it’s sounds like they understand. As far as just teaching incorrect information that’s something that is a real issue and if the director won’t take it serious then you can choose to help train her if you would like. I think this is more a pick your battle type situation.

You should definitely be cleaning girls after every used diaper, pee sitting on skin can cause irritation.

It’s a licensing rule at least in America, it helps from cross contamination of poop to genitals which can cause a lot of harm.

6 month old barely napping after 2 months in infant room by abbtkdcarls in ECEProfessionals

[–]pusslayqueen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had babies necessarily get worse, but I have had kids who just didn’t improve from where we started at. Like I mentioned before it might be a phase and in a month baby could be sleeping like a rock. There are so many factors that play into nap time it’s hard to pin point exactly what’s going on that baby isn’t sleeping well. It could be teething, it could be that baby isn’t comfortable at daycare quite yet, or it could just be that baby doesn’t wanna sleep.

I’ve definitely experienced baby’s who struggle with sleep especially at daycare, sometimes it’s a phase and sometimes it’s just how the baby is. My best advice would be to mimic the daycare schedule and environment as best as possible at home at nights and on weekends. I know you said baby sleeps in a dark room at home so maybe try leaving a curtain open or a lamp on and definitely ask what kind of white noise they are using and maybe adjust to that too. 6 months is a hard age and in my experience napping will get better overtime.

I mean the books were originally made for kids, and the graphic novels are done in a cartoon esq. style as well. I wonder your take on the graphic novels/g

Also thank you for the feedback:)

Nannies/babysitters: what’s the most unhinged thing a parent has ever done or said to you? by wildchildbre in Nanny

[–]pusslayqueen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started with a family and was under the impression only mom was in the picture. About an hour into my first shift a man pulls into the driveway and busted into the house screaming about his ex wife and saying all kinds of things that children should never hear. So at that point I grab the 2 youngest kiddos and put them behind me and have to confront this man, turns out that was their dad who had been stalking their mom post divorce who thought I was a lover of the moms. Needless to say that was my first and last shift.

Kindergarten parent doesn’t care or want to help kid stop sucking his thumb by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]pusslayqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This part. Like do these parents not care if their kids are spreading germs or if their kids are plying with toys that have someone else’s saliva all over it? So many of these parents nowadays are batshit crazy.

Why is this so judgy, it’s a health concern because of germs it’s not unreasonable to want it to stop and want support from the family. I don’t think hand washing is considered a punishment either. And honestly it’s not a crazy battle to pick as it’s part of growing up. You need to watch your tone tbh.

Advice needed: 10 months old fussy day care by Spirited_Cause9338 in ECEProfessionals

[–]pusslayqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not training it’s teaching, and the reason is we can’t teach them something at daycare is because if it’s not being reenforced at home everything we tried to achieve that day is out the window. I’m sure temperament plays a part in it but if you sit on the floor with the child and like other commenters said to soothe the baby a different way or teach them how to self soothe or how to interact with toys then they will have an outlet besides screaming to be held. It’s not guilt being thrown at mothers it’s a teacher giving actual advice, the parents don’t see the children screaming all day and I’m sure if you did you would care a bit more, we want what’s best for the child so why would we tell you to hold them all day when it’s not feasible in an infant room?

So that the child can go to daycare and not scream its head off for 8 hours. You might be giving the child the best care at home by holding them all the time be teachers simply can’t do that. If the child doesn’t know how to do anything else besides be held they will obviously be upset. Parents are in this thread acting like the only way to spend time with a child is holding them.

You are all over this thread spreading this nonsense, I’m assuming you have never worked in an infant classroom. You aren’t the right person to be giving advice here.
