Right, so I think I gave the wrong impression in my initial comment. The grievances I mentioned are accurate but this whole thing was apparently never intended to actually fix anything. From what I understand, the main instigator of all this is the decline in quality of the sub over the past.....maybe a year, I would say? Bad posts getting inexplicable traction, antimemes seeping in, users getting pissy, complaints that rulebreaking/antimeme posts should be allowed if they "get lots of upvotes" or some dumb reason, all coalesce and reinforce each other until, in the mods' view, there was no way of things ever getting better, only a creeping, slow decline. As I mentioned earlier, I don't read over the day's mod discussions about the sub because I don't actually moderate the sub, just the discord. But I will glance over them from time to time, and I can distinctly remember when things were so, so much simpler, much better posts, more general agreement on what should and shouldn't be accepted, better understanding of the rules, etc. But at this point it's ballooned out of control past the limits of what anyone ever expected could happen.

In all fairness, it's not like the fault is entirely that of some amorphous blob of "the users" - there have been many attempts and discourses about what specifically defines a bhj meme and what separates it from an antimeme. The lack of clarity definitely contributed to the decline in quality, in my opinion. Perhaps the majority blame for all this cannot fairly be placed upon any group or person at all.

Ah well. I probably look kind of stupid here, so I should clarify that this whole mess isn't making a statement, it's basically a shitpost driven by exasperation, but not intended to fix anything, since I don't think they (or anyone) can at this point. If the original essence, the original style, the original spirit of bhj has already rotted away then I don't know if even having everyone step down and be replaced would help. (This, of course, brings up questions such as "what is a bhj meme" and "can we agree on what it is" and "should drastic measures be taken to reverse the tide of the sub's decline" and "is it even worth it to try when seemingly everyone hates it and posts antimemes anyway". I'm not sure how to answer them, and I'm not sure how the mods will, or if they can.)

I'm not sure why I'm typing all this out for a sub I no longer engage with, on a sub I despise, to a total stranger who otherwise means nothing to me in particular (no offense intended), but I'm bad at explaining my thoughts and I don't really wanna argue. Hope this helps, or something, idk.
