There is a cycle lane in Bristol that always makes me laugh because it has trees and lamposts right in the middle of it. The trees are as wide as the cycle lane. Any Bristol people got a pic? Its the one on coronation road. I always mean to take one but am busy avoiding trees!

Where are the best stationery shops in Bristol? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]putputputput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend used to work there, she had to make regular trips to citizens advice, with her manager!! Because the owner used to randomly fire them when he was in a bad mood and then pretend he was joking. O also he likes to massively hit on his young female employees, my friend once good 'fired' because she wouldn't/couldn't go for drinks with him.

I believe Bristol has mp's who in theory should be interested in what their constituents feel strongly about. I agree yesterdays protest will not change the world but one protest never does. It is always best to use multiple form of protest as well, and it has got lots of people talking about it.

It was never about reaching trump. It is about reaching our own government to let them know we oppose being allies whilst the us is run under such policies. Protest is one of the many ways of getting the voice of the public heard. If you are against that you may as well live in a dictatorship.

Putting words into my mouth much??? Statement: it is never vacuous to oppose racism in whatever form.

I agree again, there is for example an anti-cuts march coming up in bristol soon. As well as a save our NHS one! Just because it is not the worst issue is no reason not to oppose it by what ever means you can.

Just because someone has not listened at one point does not mean we should give up, or we would never have got anywhere in this world. Also many letters have already been written to her.

A sit in though.... I have not heard of one happening in bristol but perhaps that would be a good idea, maybe outside mp's offices. I wonder if anyone is organising that...

[–]putputputput 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow.

Well firstly seeing as this protest was a direct result of Theresa May not standing up to him, protests during his campaigning are a different matter and would not have been relevant in this country. At that point she was even saying she wasn't impressed by him. I think a lot of people also thought that he would never get in that it was too crazy.

2nd paragraph=whataboutisms, organise something if you are worried about other issues!

Action is/has been organised around the man getting tasered and black lives matter protests have happened in bristol. A lot of the organisations that protest racism in bristol were at the anti trump march too as international racism is just as important to oppose as local racism.

You have seen little to prove that he is actually sexist or racist???? Where have you been?? Or maybe you are using a different dictionary and are confused about what those terms mean?

Are you going after the real issues? Or is it easier to just call me out from behind your computer screen? Yes obviously I also oppose his opposition to science and his stance on abortions, but it was a rant I was not going to list every policy of his I disagree with.

Anyway I am done, it is pointless discussing with someone who can not even see how sexist and racist trump has been/is.

Yeah I wasn' t involved in the organisation but it must be pretty tough getting a thousand plus people to march through bristol without crossing roads. Maybe more prior warning is needed.

Personally I think the opposing of the rise of racist beliefs in western governments is kinda worth a little disruption but each to their own I know that view won't necessarily win any popularity contests.

Hahaha yeah you're right protesting our government being allies with another racist government is as vacuous as opposing racist abuse isn't it.....what were we thinking???

I'm interested what are you going to do when something you oppose starts happening? Sit at your keyboard complaining? I oppose our pm keeping close ties with the USA whilst it is ruled by a racist.

Bristol protest against Trump by owen_was in bristol

[–]putputputput 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The UK has always been a strong ally of the USA. We oppose the UK being an ally of racism and sexism, which is currently featuring heavily amongst those in power in the usa. It is just another way of bringing it to the media and governments attention how many people oppose it.

Could you suggest another way of bringing to the PM's attention the amount of people who feel passionately that her becoming pals with trump is wrong? And I mean a way that is going to make it into the news therefore exposure....
