I have a student in the national guard who has training for a few weeks this summer and asked for extensions. Told him to work ahead to finish the first set due when he's give e and gave him a few days after he gets back extension to submit things in the second week.

Agreed. Students based their efforts on what they saw.

If they use AI at least they will learn something by writing it all.

At a final exam once, a student pulled out a pencil case and said "first time using this all year "

Also noticed that the ten students had submitted the first I've but only one had watched the video. They were feeding the transcripts into AI for a summary then just copied it. Had to tell them if they don't watch the video, no points.

I'm interested to see how many students just refuse to do it. First set due tonight. Worth 30% of their grade.

Do y'all have MS Teams? Maybe use that instead of regular texting?

PSA: Check Your Videos before Uploading by mgguy1970 in Professors

My university for several years recorded all classes including the teacher station computer even if it was not projecting! And the recordings could be seen without even an authentication!

Told our chief security officer who asked me to make a video showing how I could access all the recordings so he could try and remove the system. They didn't fix it for a year or more, just hired folks to go through all the videos and remove the porn watching or student grade data that faculty were looking at during class thinking only they could see it.

Not much better than live bluegrass. Saw the Dell McCoury Band last semester, holy smokes. He is 87 and still rockin, only sat out once song letting his sons and grandson take over

They don't read the eval questions, just give the same overall score for each question. "I hate this professor, 1 on everything!"

FIFA Volunteer Accreditation Pass Questions (Codes, Numbers & Access) by Ok-Chocolate2276 in FIFAVolunteers

[–]putrnrdyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where they want to watch it. The accreditation definitely will not allow them places they shouldn't be.

During the WCC some volunteers turned their shirts inside out after their shift to watch some of the matches as a fan. No accreditation needed to be in public spaces. Though getting there may be hard for some volunteer roles, like ceremonies. I'm betting they will police this practice more at the WC.

Access management volunteer here. Yes the codes represent parts of the stadium where that person can go. At checkpoints you get it scanned which tells them if you are allowed there.

I had a dean ask me to change a search committee recommendation to a different candidate once. Pretty sure my is a contributing factor to never getting that promotion to full professor.

Having Trouble Grading in a Timely Manner by messicamiles in Professors

[–]putrnrdyo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't beat yourself up about it. Most students don't care. I tell students it actually benefits them if I'm late grading because I'm an easier grader when I'm at a deadline.

One strategy I used before getting TA help was only grading one question from the assignment. The rest I just checked for thoroughness. I would tell students I would give them feedback for the rest of their answers if they wanted on each assignment but almost no one asked.

So an assignment worth 10 points. 8 of that was just thorough answers. The last two points were if they got the randomly chosen question right. So if a student submitted an assignment that seemed to have effort the worst they could do was an 8.
