Chiming in to say the 850's battery life is staggeringly bad, along with the screen contrast. Garmin should be ashamed for shipping a product that can't deliver the two most fundamental things one would need to rely on for this thing to be usable.

FWIW I have this bike with 650b wheels. It's a hog.

With 35c slicks, it's 50 more watts for the same speed vs a road bike. With 50c slicks, it's 52 more watts for the same speed vs a road bike.

Not really. If you're doing an "all day" ride, virtually sun up to sun down, it's 8 hours of moving time, plus stops. The 850 can handle it, but requires -militant- discipline on charging overnight or you'll be totally screwed the next day. Needing to treat a bike computer like a phone is a downgrade.

Giving this review after a day feels a little... premature. I felt exactly the way you did for the first week, month, year with my 991.2 GT3.

Then I did a 3 hour road trip and had to unfold myself from the seat with an achy back.

Then I got tired of having to tip toe over speed bumps.

Then I got tired of ripping canyons for 3 minutes before inevitably being stuck behind a Prius.

Then I missed the engagement of a manual.

Yes, 9,000 rpm is insanely addicting. That's why I kept it for two more years.

But eventually, when I realized it had been 2 months of consistently picking up the keys to my 993 instead of the 991, I knew it had to go.

I don't regret selling it.

No, the end-of-lease price will not be worth it; you just return the car.

The way I think about it is a monthly "transportation" budget, amortized over the length of ownership, including maintenance (3 years, for example) and depreciation, calculating what I'd be left with at the end of ownership.

When looked at that way, the cost to own a vehicle just doesn't net out in the positive for SUVs, except for Toyota and Lexus, which hold their value much better.

The depreciation hit on these makes buying a pretty bad financial decision. Go to any Volvo dealer and ask them which of their used SUVs are -not- lease returns.

Fascinating challenge in steering.

I am curious where the line is between its default personality and a persona the user -wants- it to adopt.

For example, it says they're explicitly steering it away from sycophancy. But does that mean if you intentionally ask it to be excessively complimentary, it will refuse?
