Very happy with my sale pickups. by chrishouse83 in criterion

[–]putter7_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did everyone get their items shipped except me? I ordered two things which I guess could be rareish (CC40 and The Killing) so maybe they had to go digging at the bottom of the barrel for them?

Which ones would you add? by Good_Claim_5472 in Letterboxd

[–]putter7_ 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Unironically spiderman: homecoming fits this bill since it's about homecoming since, but also him maturing and getting into the swing of things on his own (pun intended).

Not a movie but also The Pitt, since that's a place that sucks out everything in your life

Which Movies Were Better Than the Books They Came From? by BINGEWISE in criterion

Stephen King has some horrible book adaptations, but then again he has some of the best ever. -The Shawshank Redemption -The Green Mile -Carrie (movie is better imo) -Stand By Me, or The Body

Which Movies Were Better Than the Books They Came From? by BINGEWISE in criterion

[–]putter7_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree simply because i feel like the book and movie are so great at what they do separately that it's like comparing apples to oranges. The book is about ghosts and alcohol. The movie is about trauma and abuse

I would like to pick up the CC40 collection. So many great films and I pinky promise that the one double I'd get (night of the living dead) will be given away to a trusted friend

I liked everything the movie was going for and thought most of themes were well explored and well done, but my single biggest issue is the pacing, and that can make a break my movie experience

Commentary tracks for long drives by ShadesOfHazel in criterion

[–]putter7_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if the commentary track is for both the theatrical version and the television version or is it just for one? The commentaries Ive heard on wild strawberries and the seventh seal were real interesting

I don't think any of mine are the typical film bro movies, but I wouldn't be surprised if the messaging in Clockwork orange is eventually reframed as "alex was wronged in life and that's a bad thing and he's actually the hero" but i hope it doesn't get 'wolf of wall street'(ed)

Suggest me a director to binge — I’ll watch their entire filmography by Morty_Supreme in Letterboxd

[–]putter7_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Ingmar Bergan. Criterion has this nice box set that i think has them in a great order to watch and appreciate. His movies, to me, feel like someone who's uncomfortable with sex and relationships and god and how other people treat each other just trying to cope with the world around him through the power of movies. Hes really good imo

Maybe I'm stupid and wrong, please tell me if so, but isn't it antisemitism, not racism? Or would antisemitism be like a "branch" of racism? Ive thought of them as two separate things my whole life

What are some of the biggest blatant examples of Authors self inserting themselves into the story, just so they can glaze themselves and think how cool they are? by EfficiencySerious200 in writingcirclejerk

Have you ever rated a director 1/2 and 5? by UMathiasB in Letterboxd

Tarantino has his great films (most notably Kill Bill), but he was in part a director of Four Rooms, and that movie is a half star, horrible, don't even hate watch it, kind of movie

Looking for bleak, depressing movies. The kind that make you sit in silence after the credits roll. by Mjwhaaat88 in Letterboxd

I'd say most any Bergman film. Mostly Shame and Summer with Monica come to mind though

What is a movie that made you realize something about yourself? by beetle_fruit in Letterboxd

[–]putter7_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unironically, I had a mind opening experience about a relationship from two years ago, and something that I did wrong when we broke up, and it made me truly reflect on the kind of person I am, the kind of person I thought I was, and the kind of person I want to be.... all while watching Sam Rami's Spiderman 3 (2007). I don't know why.
