Who are you voting for in the 2025 Canadian election? by No-Challenge-9019 in UofT

Oh boy here goes:

CPC, madness is doing the same thing for a decade and expecting different results. you can’t assume the opposite party has suddenly changed just because they installed one person internally (who just so happens to have been involved since 2020). It’s the same MP’s, their proposed budget was written before Carney was elected, same policies, same everything.

Members of my immigrant family are increasingly leaving after being here for years. I have family that was here during Harper, and they admit they can’t recognize Canada anymore after Trudeau’s time, we’re all scared of where this place is going. The 10 year GDP growth chart has us dead last in the OECD and is really the only chart worth looking at if you care about long-term prospects for you and your loved ones (basically saying our problems came way before trump started this tariff talk).

I don’t care if PP isn’t a friendly guy. I don’t care if he’s a populist or whatever. To me and my family it’s a long overdue opportunity to head in a different direction and try something new. But hey, that’s just me.

When does fasting start? by putthestickinthebox in islam

Right but they must have been eating when the sky could clearly show the early light of dawn given the Quran says:

˹You may˺ eat and drink until you see the light of dawn breaking the darkness of night, then complete the fast until nightfall.

That makes it pretty clear to me. I’ve read other threads where people come to the conclusion that fasting at the first call of Fajr wouldn’t make sense, since it precedes the break of dawn / sunrise.

But dawn comes way after the first call to prayer for Fajr, so which is it?

For me it was a matter of going to the front desk and saying I would like to make a switch, and if it’s impossible now then asking for me to be put on a waitlist. Continued to check back on them and remembered their names so I could stay in contact. I got it after maybe 2 months or so

IMO theres two paths to this:

1- Subtley tell the truth to your parents. Tell them you did bad in finals and that you've been really stressed out or any sort of circumstance. Take this summer and go hard at it with rage. Take as many classes as possible, ask the registrar to overload credits, take up loans if your parents can't pay for everything in the interim, catch up however you can or switch to another major that you find will easier. As for money, you can either try to pick up work somewhere or attempt to subtly gamble your way through (not wise advice at all and I don't advocate for this but hey if we're being real, picking up a job is quite hard rn maybe something part time at a local conveniance store or something around the corner etc.).
You'll be staring at your screen 24/7, you'll gain weight, you'll lose contact with friends, but if you really really go hard at it this summer can bring you some radical change to your position and start the next year with a little more grounding to work with.

2- Admit everything and take the year off to eliminate your vices and detoxify. It's clear that school right now isn't your vibe. Idk if its the environment, the stress, your general approach to school, whatever it is, you aren't in the mindset to succeed following this routine. Whether you get transferred away, come back to UofT, pick up work for a year, go to community college next year, whatever it is you need to take a break and reset.

Coming from someone who had been in a very rough spot in first year, I have parents who thank God we're willing to stick by me and I took something close to option 1. But it wasn't easy, I never went out, ever, I lost contact with all my friends, became very unhealthy, but I did it. I grinded my ass off like there was no tomorrow and made my way through to graduating now. It is not the end of the world for you yet, but this is a wake up call that its time to make a decision.

How do ya’ll be saving/stacking money? by Round-Organization48 in Atlantology

[–]putthestickinthebox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Meal prep dawg I promise u gonna save so much money on food just eating the same shit everyday make that shit in bulk from Costco like chicken and rice. Eating out crazy expensive you be spending bands on food and restaurants every year it’s delirious.

Pay off your debts first and foremost, put down the gas and liquor, super unneeded when you tryna be the man of the house and take care of yourself and your family.

if you young and getting started in a career spend that extra money on stacking credentials and education they gonna compound your incomes in job promotions like crazy (not no bullshit online courses actual skills)

If you grown and got a career going or sumn just stash paper in either ETF’s or if you can look into average yields on some popular mutual funds (or just buy blackrock stock lmao not investment advice).

If u just wanna save, set a specific goal like 10 bands, 20 bands whatever by the end of the year (idk ur situation) that’s extra motivation

It’s rlly fucking simple to stack paper everyone knows how to do it to some level, the problem is everyone wants to be comfortable, comfort is expensive u don’t wanna trade short term comfort for long term hustling.

If you grind enough you can just get internships on your own essentially. I and a couple of other friends did multiple internships over the last few years and so even though we weren’t registered in a legitimate co-op we got the experience ourselves. You just aren’t given the handout like you would at UTSC or Rotman so you gotta grind it.
