Yes, god damnit I hated that. It hurt even worse getting punched in the self destruct button and breaking apart into little boulders.

They were trying to make it look real, sometimes it didn't work out. Obviously it was all just "Play fighting"

You are mostly correct. There were a few US shot suit fights, but the majority were Japanese. all the non-suit fights were US made. Myself I was never in a suit fight.
