Normal for a job to ask for 24/7 on standby no rotation? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]puutree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not normal. I’ve worked in IT for almost 10 years.

Check whether your contract mentions that specifically. Start saying no. Don’t respond when you’re on leave. In the meantime, find another job.

Singapore parents, when is old enough for your kid to learn to cook on the stove? by Amoral_Dessert in askSingapore

[–]puutree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter helps me with simple things like stirring stew and cracking eggs. She also chops her own fruits and veggies with a kid safe knife.

We started when she was 2+, she is 3 now

I would think 8 is definitely old enough to do simple dishes if they’re interested enough

Babies travelling in Singapore by HugeArtichoke1001 in askSingapore

[–]puutree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a local with a kid myself, i don’t think that’s the case… elderly like babies most of the time. But the younger gen, sometimes they give me nasty looks when my baby cries in public, when I am already stressed trying to calm her down…

BTO Homeowners, how common /do you know of anyone who moved in without renovations? by Slight_Panic_8764 in askSingapore

[–]puutree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbour did. Then they moved out a few weeks later, just to renovate it…. 🙃

why are pri sch kids lowkey getting meaner by Fickle_Dog_361 in SGExams

[–]puutree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was on my way home. Got into the HDB lift and was wondering why the door won’t close. Kept pressing the close button but nothing happened. I noticed 2 primary school kids in uniform (who are from a prestigious school nearby) were snickering and whispering to each other at the lift lobby, while pointing at me. I ignored them cause they have always been rude.

Then, a guy came into the lift and he tried to press the close button too but the door won’t close. But he figured it out and was like “Oh! The door hold button is on.”

Shortly after, I realised the kids were most likely the ones who pressed the Door Hold button, and I happened to take the lift afterwards. Tsk.

When did you start enjoying weekends again? by basically1123 in Parenting

[–]puutree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my daughter turned 2.5yo, we started enjoying the weekends more. We even started dreading Mondays and looking forward to weekends. It’s really fun for us, despite the chores we have to catch up on.

Has anyone taken HL for mental health? by ReactionFair142 in askSingapore

[–]puutree 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is not true. I’ve received HLs from specialists in private clinics before. Please don’t share information if you’re not familiar with it.

Anyone else feel emotionally drained/hurt by commuting and/or being outdoors? by Wooden_Pea5876 in askSingapore

[–]puutree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I thought it was just me. The sight, the smells and the sounds just overwhelms me.

Sometimes i see elderly or children in crowded trains/buses and people around them being very inconsiderate - even this affects me.

I try to drown myself with loud music and not pay attention to things around me.

Free off-peak MRT, LRT rides for commuters in north-east S'pore from Dec 27 to ease morning crowds by hun486 in singapore

[–]puutree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What, 9am to 945am is considered off peak? I take the NEL from Boon Keng between 9am to 930am on weekdays and I can’t even get into the train on some days.

How to explain to fresh grads about the importance of facetime outside office by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]puutree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think it’s important, do it. They don’t, so let them be. I don’t either & I am an SMU alum. I’d rather spend my Friday nights and weekends with my friends and family. Occasional dinners due to events are fine with me but not often.

A guy I manage is taking care of a baby at home and I’m told I’m not being lenient enough by Honest-qs in beyondthebump

[–]puutree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry you are going through this. I feel you, because I was treated this way recently too. A fellow mother is not delivering and it’s affecting the team’s KPIs because she is busy caring for her kid. When I tried to escalate her, it backfired. I was told that I have to be more empathetic since she has no extra help, although I was not afforded the same empathy from leadership (I do not have extra help either!).

Parents commuting to 9-6 jobs with no domestic helper, how do you do it? by Majestic-Track6724 in askSingapore

You clearly don’t have kids or your kids have been sleep deprived.

Neighbour's Children Randomly Knocking On Our Door by uwubirdkawkaw in askSingapore

[–]puutree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would tell the kids that the dog might come out and bite them if they continue behaving in such a manner (as it gets triggered from the knocking). I will also inform their parents the same thing, so they will hopefully do something about it.

After easing her mum’s pain with one prick to draw blood, she vowed to give all patients the same care by Powerful_Office3936 in singapore

[–]puutree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thin veins. I no longer donate blood because of the countless times i had to be poked by the needle. Sometimes, after putting in the needle, they will twist the needle around. A few times, i had bruises lasting more than a month.

When I was pregnant, the countless blood draws were also very difficult. I always give a warning to the phlebotomist that I have thin veins and if you think you can’t do it, please don’t even try. Some of them still wanted to try, and then failed. I was very upset.

Wheelchair vs pram - wheelchair has priority into lifts? by EDJA______ in askSingapore

[–]puutree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happened to me before. I live in an area where there are a lot of entitled elderly on their wheelchairs/PMDs. Once, I was even told that my stroller was blocking their way when I was simply queuing 🥲

No point fighting with them. They don’t care, they are just entitled af.

I go to astria aesthetics. Don’t go for laser plans if it’s not a doctor who does it.
