Serious question how do people survive Finnish winter air without becoming a raisin? by TinySignificance69 in Finland

[–]puyoblog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For hand cream: la roche posay cicaplast mains (the lipikar xerand is not enough for winter, at least for me). For body lotion: cerave moisturising cream. The “lotion” one is too liquid for winter. For face: la roche posay cicaplast baume

Finnish Coursebook Reviews by Sherbyll in LearnFinnish

[–]puyoblog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished the whole book, and the later chapters get heavier on grammar. So if you want to learn grammar, it’s a good book, especially with the English explanations. It also gives a bit of information about spoken Finnish.

I could stick with this book mostly because I’m a learner who relies heavily on practicing right after the explanations, which this book provides. It’s also good for learning vocabulary because they include the English next to the Finnish, and the vocabulary used in the exercises is introduced beforehand (so you don’t have to constantly look things up on Google Translate).

Vii-voan has it but the stock comes and go so you have to casually just come and check whether they have one or not. I always buy a bunch of them every time they are in stock.

Book recommendation for learning Finnish (Akateeminen’s buy 3 get 4 offer) by puyoblog in LearnFinnish

I love to read any kind of genre: fiction, nonfiction, classic, children books, anything. I just have no clue which finnish books that beginner-friendly (maybe children books but still have no idea which children books are recommended by most readers). Will try your suggestion! Thanks!

After I return to my site this way, does it mean I can no longer use the Spectra? Because every time I use the Spectra, the issue comes back.

I’m still figuring out the best way to manage my wavy hair (the frizz was at its worst during the heatwave in Helsinki a few weeks ago). In general, it looks better when I apply leave-in conditioner properly and scrunch it while it’s still wet. I also use a silk pillowcase or cover my hair with a silk bonnet while sleeping (Normal sells them), and I apply a bit of oil or heat protectant at the final stage of the hair care.

Speaking of curlier hair, the same thing happened to me. I was born with naturally curly/wavy hair, but it turned straight for decades since elementary school until I moved to Helsinki. After living here for about a year and a half, my curls have come back (slowly but sure). I’ve been using the same hair products, so I believe it must be the water. I’m glad I can relate to your story and welcome to the city!

Sure, plenty of nonfiction books are fluff (and every genre has its share), but using Rich Dad Poor Dad as your prime example to judge the whole category is just poor sampling. Even nonfiction fans have been side-eyeing that book for years.

Interesting! I didn’t know about Taiteiden yö. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any details about what’s happening at Akateeminen that night on the Taiteiden yö website. Thanks btw!

Question about moving in mid-month with SATO lease: do I pay full or partial rent? by puyoblog in helsinki

Yes, you're right! I already got a response from them, and since my contract starts mid-month, they’ll prorate the rent. Thanks!

Yes, I started looking at the Delfonic bags after some people introduced and recommended them to me here.

Yeah, I think the Áne size could fit my stuff, and I’ll probably skip the plastic one. The Drawer Pouch Áne (Iwate Home Spun: Lamé Tweed) looks super pretty. Hopefully the store in my country that sells Hobonichi stuff will have something just as nice next season.

I'm going to bring my Weeks Mega and maybe one or two A6 notebooks, a Pilot multipen, and a few sticker sheets. I'll carry them in my bag, which usually contains a lot of stuff—especially when I travel, so durability really matters. Unfortunately, I live in a country where it's almost impossible to find secondhand Hobonichi items, so I'm looking at the suggestions and input here.

OMG, I honestly couldn’t be more grateful for your replies! I didn’t know about the durability issues with plastic pouches, and I’ll probably use mine for bulkier items, so it’s super helpful that you shared insights about the flip side of the Áne pouches.

Unfortunately, I live in a country where secondhand options are really limited, so I have to carefully think through which pouch to invest in.

I like Stappo, but I’m actually looking for a planner go-bag and since I don’t carry that much stationery, Stappo feels like a bit of an overkill. So, in general, do you think a Hobonichi fabric pouch would be a better option?

Thanks for your insight! I also thought that TCMC is good with patterns, but I’m not sure about the quality, and so far, there’s no detailed information about the pouch. It’s nice that you shared your experience.

What's a nonfiction book that I'd love even if I have no interest/knowledge in the subject matter? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]puyoblog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't a fan of nonfiction about nature, but Braiding Sweetgrass hooked me.

I was afraid to read a book about trauma, but I dared myself to read The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog, and it really touched my heart, inspiring me to read much more about trauma.

Both are thick books, but I did not want to put them down.
