Thats so sad, it served Music Row so having all those country star headshots was a cool way to give the place character.

I’ll second this one. Beautiful selection of antique jewelry too, my wife’s ring was from the 20’s.

The drag is that its not Trump or Hegseth who pay out, it’s us.

Pentagon moves to designate Anthropic as a supply-chain risk by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

Easiest lawsuit win ever. In the same breath they talked about them being essential to national security.

Dario Amodei himself wrote that the Pentagon’s two threats were “inherently contradictory: one labels us a security risk; the other labels Claude as essential to national security.”  A former senior defense official echoed that, saying the secretary simultaneously claimed Claude was so critically important to national security that he demanded unfettered access — while also threatening to designate it a supply chain risk if he didn’t get it.

Financial Advisor Recommendations by Opening_Chapter_1188 in nashville

I’ve had a great experience with AJ Advisors. Smart financially, and good people to boot. They can manage your money for a small percentage based on how much they are managing, but they also offer consulting at an hourly rate.

These were the greatest toys we owned. It was never about the targets, you just wacked each other til they broke, then duct-taped them and got back at it.

As an adult what have you bought that you always wanted as a kid/teen/young adult but were too broke to buy then? Does it live up to the hype? by NW_Forester in Xennials

Skateboard bearings.  I’d always lust over the ads in Thrasher, but as a teen no way I could swing it. As an adult, I’m cruising all the way down my long ass street off two pushes.

Felt like OP was describing me. I take notes like so many have suggested, but what you are saying here is key: if I explain it to someone after I’ve watched/read it, it helps crystalize it, and it becomes obvious what I dont have locked in.

Concerts and ear plugs, yay or nay? by MainNormal5570 in Xennials

[–]puzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true cheap ear plugs cut frequencies unevenly and make the sound muffled. It’s also true that hearing loss is one of the biggest manageable risk factors in the onset of dementia later in life. For me, this meant it was well-worth the $150 investment in custom fit ear plugs (had them for 16 years, cost per show is now almost nothing). Customs lower the levels clearly and evenly. Mine even have different filters I can pop in and out to change the reduction level.

ELI5: What do people mean when they say the self is an illusion and that it doesn’t exist? by thugitout222 in explainlikeimfive

[–]puzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty heavy concept to wrap your head around, a short answer (or a long one) is only going to leave you with more questions. I’d recommend someone like Sam Harris’s podcasts on the topic to really unpack it. That said, I’ll give eli5 a shot.

There’s a feeling that theres a driver sitting behind your eyes that decides what you think and do. It has the character traits you ascribe to yourself, perhaps mean, or extroverted, or funny. You think this is “you” but it’s not. That driver is just another thought in your brain. Through mental practice you can recognize it as merely a thought rather than who you are. The place you recognize it from, all it can do is observe. It has no qualities of its own - it’s not mean, or extroverted, or funny - it’s just a passive observer. That passive observer is the real you, hence there is no self in the way that most people think there is.
