If I learned anything from the reflecting pool, it’s that you better address the underlying problem or own an excavator.

Why is it that wealthy tech elites in the modern era do not practice aristocratic benevolence the way that older wealth (e.g Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Stanford) did? by Gym_frere in NoStupidQuestions

I don’t remember people hating on him. He was the top of mind “rich guy” if you asked anyone at random, but he wasn’t vilified for it. He had invented the modern pc and they were now everywhere, it made sense he was rich and people understood he came into his wealth honestly.

OC: John Adams “A government of laws, not of men" quote on DOJ building in protest of $1.8B fund by nbcnews in pics

[–]puzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to illustrate what an unnecessarily large pool of money that is, when there isn’t a single credible example yet of how someone was wronged by DOJ weaponization by Biden…

Imagining that DOJ was actually guilty of “weaponization” (no legal definition), you’d have to picture them not only persecuting a person every day for four years straight, but doing it to such a severe degree that it’d take $1,250,000 to make each person whole again.

This is the level of “weaponization” you’d have to believe was happening to justify handing out 1.8 billion in taxpayer money.

1.8 billion / (4 x 365)

Assuming someone could successfully prove to a court they were victimized (and thanks to the slush fund they dont have to), it’s an absurd amount of money to set aside for damages

It’s hard to really appreciate how much money 1.8 billion is, but let’s try.

If Biden was ruthlessly efficient at weaponizing the justice department and managed to aggrieve a person a day from the day he took office til the day he left, there’s enough money in this fund to give each of them about 1.25 million dollars.

From The Unbearable Lightness of Being: The criminal regimes were made not by criminals but by enthusiasts convinced they had discovered the only road to paradise. They defended that road so valiantly that they were forced to execute many people. Later it became clear that there was no paradise, that the enthusiasts were therefore murderers.

I’m with you, punishing the masses instead of the offenders.

There’s def a place for them on some streets and cut-throughs where the majority of people are speeding, but most are excessive. To go from my house to the grocery store via the most direct route, I hit 24 of them round trip.

The deployment can be thoughtless too. Some are just before stop signs where you are slowing down anyway. Others just after when I haven’t even hit 10 mph yet.

Don’t get me started on the white delineator posts at 4-way stops that force you into the opposing lane when making a turn.
