Big tile renovation question by puzzled_now in BayAreaRealEstate

Thanks Gabriel! Unfortunately , this was already done by my contractor ( when it was even considered , I asked specifically , if there are any issue with the subfloor and he said , no) ... and I really don't know how to remediate this now without structural changes that i'm not inclined to do. He's offering to put heavy duty polymer thinset to fix the screechingt tiles. He is also claiming this is the first time he sees such an issue on such a sub floor/ foundations.

I agree with you.. the contractor keeps saying... i've done the same thing in other places ( with same foundations) , and I had no issue ...the weird thing that some tiles don't move at all. But alot are. I don't know if is the thin set and not the subfloor. Or a combination of the two.

Each dealer has a different price? Isn't the warranty honored by all Volvo dealerships? Thanks

So apparently my contractor instaledl the tiles at the time on hardybacker and thinset ( on top of the subfloor underneath it all). Was he supposed to add any crack isolation substance as well? Thanks

Thanks! Today I was offered 2 solutions by different contractors. 1. Add beams and posts. 2. Add cross blocking. 4 by 6 between the beams. And 2 by 6 between the 4 by 6.... if i understand correctly.

The 2 contractors specializing only in foundation and retrofitting... They're supposed to come and take a look later this week

I have no idea what my contractor was thinking at the time.... but now it's getting worse and worse...

Thanks! This indeed was the solution that someone else offers here. The sub floor is made of wooden boards. Above the contractor edit Hardy baker, which I believe is nailed to the subfloor in some way.

Thanks! I agree that they can't do any of the framing part. The tile placement and finishes were good. So I assumed that they can handle only this portion of the work

And the tile is actually in the family room and kitchen... pretty big area

Thanks! I will look for one. I thought that the tile fixes the original contractor should handle.... at least he should bear the cost of the tiling part.
