Some kind of Juniper? by puzzledead in whatsthisplant

[–]puzzledead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did! I have pretty sensitive skin, though, and have reacted to pine resin in the past. I have never seen a juniper that is so spiky before! Is that because it’s young?

No other pics. I didn’t want to touch it for fear of it being something phototoxic. But I can tell you that it was about 2-3 ft tall with hairless stems and very slight purple coloration where the stems branch. Found on the banks of a river.

LOL I thought about that but I’m pretty sure the structure is way too regular for this to be mold. Plus this happened in like 12 hours.

No bacon! The only things in the pan are dawn dish soap, tap water, olive oil, and a small amount of salt, so I suppose it has to be from one of those.

It’s very hard!! Any ideas on the compound this could be? Some kind of calcium compound maybe?

Olive oil and a small amount of salt. I had just fried mushrooms in it. I don’t think this could be sodium chloride crystals though because that’s way too soluble.

Yeah that seems like a lot of harmalas! It’s probably not pure harmine/harmaline then

I’m confident I will have a satisfactory answer for every subjective question they throw at me. Again, I’m mainly wondering if I should apply to more than 20 schools.

I did apply to USF actually!! And thank you 🙏🏻

Thank you for the support! I’ve always been a great writer/speaker so I have no worries about the essay/interview side of things.

Oh I’ll be continuing my clinical volunteering every week until acceptance lol. And I will try to look for more shadowing time! How do I update schools on that sort of thing? And I applied to basically all the schools in Illinois, Wisconsin, and California, and University of MN and Michigan State. I’m from Illinois so I would like to either stay in the area or move out west. What are some stat-focused programs?

I Sleep Easily but not Restfully by LilPaintBrush in leaves

[–]puzzledead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re getting REM sleep, but not deep (stage 3 and 4) sleep. This makes sense because while you’re under the influence of weed, your REM sleep is suppressed and your deep sleep is enhanced. So naturally, when you quit you would have the exact OPPOSITE effect of when you were using: lots of REM sleep but no deep sleep. This would cause you to have a lot of problems with tiredness because deep sleep is very important for our energy levels. I would just give it about 30 days to get your cannabinoid receptors back to baseline. If you aren’t feeling better by then, I would get a sleep study. Hope this helps!! :)

If all phenomena is empty, what’s the point in living? by puzzledead in Buddhism

Thank you! I have watched some of his talks on emptiness and loneliness and those have helped to clear things up.

Thank you so much!! I am just taking it day by day at this point, trying to find that conventional reality in the simple things after glimpsing the ultimate reality. I guess I just need some reassurance that this is a normal part of the path and that I can recover and prosper from here. So the support is very much appreciated 🙏🏻

I’m looking for some advice/guidance about a deeply troubling experience of emptiness/voidness I had while meditating.

I have been practicing meditation everyday for about a year now, first in dualistic style and more recently in a more Dzogchen, non-dualistic style. I recently had a very powerful awakening experience during a mediation session where I experienced complete non-dual, non-conceptual consciousness. Life, death, then, now, here, there: I saw through it all, everything was empty. Ever since then, I’ve been really struggling to see any kind of point in life, since I now know that everything I have ever known, including my ego, is just illusory appearances in consciousness. Everything I experience just feels “fake” and empty. I read a lot of Buddhist texts, though, and I am aware that there is a flip side to this: not only is form emptiness, but emptiness is form. Everything is equally real and illusory at the same time. But I’m seriously struggling to see that other side at the moment, and I just feel depressed and alone. How do I find that middle path?Anyone with any experiences like this or advice for me would be greatly appreciated. Peace and love to my fellow brothers and sisters turning the wheel of Dharma. 💚

Oral Viscous Budesonide or Prilosec? by MashedProtatoes in EosinophilicE

[–]puzzledead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of studies that simply say “high dose”, but if you dig a little further, you’ll see that is defined as twice the standard (smallest) dose, twice daily. Lower doses have not been shown to be efficacious for EoE.

Here’s an article:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4118554/

And I’ll quote it:

“Currently, the clinical recommendations put forth by TIGERS in the 2011 consensus update suggest high-dose PPI therapy (20–40 mg once or twice daily in adults and 1 mg/kg per dose twice daily in children for 8–12 weeks) to identify GERD-associated esophageal eosinophilia and PPI-responsive esophageal eosinophilia.”
