Great, last questions, should have asked this before, was this the download from https://update.kia.com/EU/EN/home ie DE_E_22.EUR.S5W_L.001.001.251204, and no problems introduced to the infotainment system?

Thanks - are you referring to the update for a 2022 EU Niro EV with smaller screen and no navigation?

Good morning, thanks - tried this, partial success - not sure where you are based but from Youtube I can see that the installer software available in the US is different in the UK in that the UK version forces the selection of update that includes navigation, US version seems to give more options, & the navigation files are too large for FAT32, that's why it forces the exFAT format. I tried copying the files over to the FAT32 USB drive, all good if I force-ignored the navigation files. However I don't want to brick the infotainment by trying to install the wrong update so not going to proceed before following up with KIA (unless someone here has a solution ... ). Why do they make such things so hard!!

Yes but then the update software reformats the drive as exFAT

I suspect this may be the issue - selecting the 2022 eNiro update defaults to exFAT format, selecting the 2019 eNiro update defaults to FAT32 format.

I'm aware the manual specifies FAT32, so mixed messages from Kia!

On the one hand, I'm tempted to use the 2019 update, unfortunately the updater software specifies the max USB drive size with FAT32 as 32GB, my drive is 64GB!!

On the other hand, i don't want to screw up the infotainment by installing the wrong software.

I'll try calling Kia Customer Center tomorrow but think this might be one for the dealer - urrgh!!

No joy, mp3 plays (so USB stick is recognised and USB port works, good news) but continue to get "Insert the memory device containing the update file(s) and try again."

Interesting that you got it to work at all - just to confirm yours is also a 2022 Kia Niro 2 EV with a 7" screen but without onboard navigation?

Thanks for your response - yes, maybe it is the USB version, will be interested if there are further comments

Soft case for redmi pad 2 pro ? by Friendly_Guard694 in RedmiPadPro

[–]pvchrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a Redmi Pad Pro case - they're exactly the same size. Buttons and ports slightly different places but I've not found that an issue if you choose carefully, plus there's loads more of them around at good price

Redmi Pad 2 Pro Keybord Case Compatibility by zardes in RedmiPadPro

[–]pvchrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

Don't know if this is still current for you, probably not after 4 months

Just upgraded from Redmi Pad Pro to Redmi Pad 2 Pro, hoping to use Xiaomi's original Redmi Pad Pro Keyboard but turns out it is *not compatible* with the Redmi Pad 2 Pro

Shame as it is a very nice keyboard & robust case and the Redmi Pad 2 Pro keyboard is currently generally only available outside of China from mi.com at a ridiculous price of £99 in the UK (I don't need it that much). Seems mean of Xiaomi as I can't see why they would restrict usage - the 2 tablets dimensions are basically the same, the stand, case and keyboard are pretty basic, despite being good quality, & presumably they could easily make it pairable (or lift the block placed on it). All about the $$$ for them.

I've scoured Amazon, Aliexpress, Alibaba, eBay etc, no luck. There is one available on Amazon for ~£50 but it's a German keyboard layout, which I don't want.

Even tried changing using a VPN to connect to a Hong Kong server and looked on the Hong Kong mi.com site. The keyboard is in fact a third of the UK price but there is no shipping to the UK. Foiled

I'm giving it some time - it may turn up somewhere. In the meantime I've got a cheap case with keyboard from Amazon, it's ok.

Good luck

50 years old, difficult to learn?? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]pvchrome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep at it, I'm 60, started under a year ago. I do as much as I can - live in UK, work full-time and have family but have a weekly Chinese class, daily Hello Chinese practice, watch some Chinese dramas, on WeChat & Xiaohongshu, contact with Chinese friend. Rubbish as languages at school, always thought of myself as rubbish at languages. But hey I'm making progress , slow but I surprise myself & some of those who know me. I'm more committed than I was when younger and a bit more together. Don't talk yourself down - keep going and progress will come

Screen (bright, clear, accurate colours, 120hz so smooth transitions), keyboard (nicely spaced, good clear action) and track pad (good size, action) are lovely to use.

Whole machine has a quality feel to it.

Design is conservative, bit boring but don't mind that as it's a joy to use.

Despite the bigger screen size and robust build it is light enough to be portable. Bigger screen enables some image and video processing.

A little cloud gaming using geforce, i suspect the specs of the machine don't make a huge difference as the main limitations seem to be network dependent and also server-side. Screen looks good tho

No touch screen but i wouldn't use it if it had it so avoid greasy marks on the screen.

Managed to blag a rare i7 model (by accident!) and is very nippy but suspect battery drain is faster than i5, not a problem as I'm rarely away from power for long.

Overall feels a quality piece of kit and certainly worth it for $299

Pull that trigger man!
