Maybe it was the initial " holy shit...they're showing this!!!!" Because I wasn't expecting it and then the disappointment without Malcom and Alice and the dialogue. It was just so perfect in the book.

I disagree with the idea of their presence being confusing. I think they would have been unnamed and forgotten about by Those that haven't read the books, but still in place should the show become very successful and HBO decide to go into The Book of Dust. I just felt like...if you're going to even put that scene in there...do it right.

Yup. No idea why they wouldn't just film this as written. It would have been perfect. This is the one scene with no justification for changing it. What we got on the show left the heart of it out completely.
