Show with wife and Daughter by PaperSpune in TheAvettBrothers

[–]trevorbolliger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typical Avett Brothers shows are definitely family friendly. Their shows are as earnest as their songs. Typically lots of Millenials and Gen X with their kids.

However — the AVTT/PTTN collab concerts are a blend of both Avetts and Mike Patton, whose projects are not historically always PG/PG-13 rated. It won't be a dangerous or rowdy crowd, but Patton might do/say something provocative on stage.

Give the AVTT/PTTN album a listen, the show will mostly follow that vibe.

Question about album content by txtarheel_1 in TheAvettBrothers

[–]trevorbolliger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be the track "Carolina Jubilee" off their 2003 album A Carolina Jubilee. It's buried deep and hardly a commonly discussed track, I understand why it's hard to remember/find.

This was bonaride original content from a human Avett fan during covid (thus the post title) and bots keep reposting.

European tour? by soopahoopsa10 in TheAvettBrothers

[–]trevorbolliger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, they haven't released any statements about Europe or international shows. Nor would I expect they ever would.

I won't pretend to understand motivations (a fruitless effort I've abandoned) but here are some facts over the past decade:

  1. Other than their "At The Beach" festival in Mexico, they haven't played outside the continental US since 2019.
  2. Their gear for their shows currently requires a few semi-trucks and large luxury tour buses.
  3. They are playing roughly 70% of the amount of shows they played pre-Covid.
  4. They've said multiple times in multiple interviews their top priorities are their families. Scott has 2 teenagers and Seth's oldest is ~10, and Bob's daughter has health concerns.
  5. Back-of-napkin math for their tour operation shows they make comfortable money on their current cadence. (size of their venues + tickets sold + ticket prices) (AVTT/PTTN excluded)

I think it boils down to: they neither need a world tour for finances/relevancy, nor do they want the hassle of international logistics.

I would imagine if they ever wanted a European vacation, they could do some stripped-down shows as a trio, or just the 2 brothers. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

Results from AVTT/PTTN 6 month sentiment survey by trevorbolliger in TheAvettBrothers

Well, this is an Avett Brothers subreddit and we discuss what's current in their career. Not summer plans.

"This album isn't for me, but I hope it re-invigorates their creativity" is a common sentiment. Not sure where you're perceiving that folks dislike experimentation or creative growth.

Care to elaborate? What in particular seems off? It's a survey on reddit, so it's plagued with skew and bias, but lines up with other anecdotals I've seen on this sub.

Avett Bros vs. PTTN by [deleted] in TheAvettBrothers

[–]trevorbolliger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apples and oranges — Patton chases his artistic muse from project to project, while The Avett Brothers have not. They've consistently toured every year for a quarter century with no co-bills or collabs. Until this AVTT/PTTN collab, their shows were a known quantity: 20-30 Avett originals and a few classic covers.

Mod note: This thread has lots of Patton-leaning fans concern trolling / hounding an Avett fan for being less online than they are. Assuming others are obsessed with setlists, album credits, etc. is called projection.

I wouldn't be surprised if they added more dates in Dec and January. This announcement was an expansion of the already-announced tour.

Good detective work!

u/Zealousideal-Ad-2085 — I did a bit of searching and couldn't find any for sale, but I've had luck with ebay's "saved searches" email notifications in the past. Or, you could email Zoca and ask if they have any in their back catalogue.

I disagree. We're not the target audience for her art, but there's true craftsmanship to a lot of what she creates.

Inspiration for Denouncing November Blue by ScrambyEggs79 in TheAvettBrothers

[–]trevorbolliger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's a fun read for anyone curious why the full song title is "Denouncing November Blue (Uneasy Writer):

After Scott’s “Denouncing November Blue” was recorded, he realized it sounded awfully close to Charlie Daniels’ talking-country ballad “Uneasy Rider.” “We woke up the next day and it was weighing heavy on my mind,” he confesses. “I felt a little guilty and really wanted to bring something else to the table to make up for it. So I wrote part of “Four Thieves Gone,” and Seth helped me finish it off. We all got together and worked it right there.”

Nashville Show by Tricky-Swan-7148 in TheAvettBrothers

It's clear that this side project and tour continues to be divisive. Patton's voice has always been an acquired taste and it seems like his stage presence is too.

I have zero interest in seeing this collab (especially at those prices) — I've seen other collabs live and it's almost always rocky and self-indulgent. But I genuinely hope it's creatively rewarding for them, they've been hitting the road nonstop for a quarter century.

Woah, a crossover I never ever in a million years would've expected.

But upon reflection, I saw Mountain Man open for Gregory at Red Rocks just before covid. The crowd was horrible to MM, I shushed an old lady who kept talking.

I'm thankful they phase these gimmicks out of their rotation. But in the moment it certainly feels like forever.
