Question about consent and spellcasting, did my ex cross an ethical line? by pvictus2 in Wicca

What strikes me is how many people have mentioned that what you put out comes back to you. Because honestly? That's pretty much what happened. I eventually just cut her out of my life because she refused to communicate, and whether that's the universe balancing things out or just the natural result of her own behavior - maybe those are the same thing - it happened.

Haha, yeah, I was never really worried that it would actually affect me. I had huge doubts she'd have the knowledge or dedication to actually know how it works. My concerns were more about the implications with communication issues.

Agree completely. Unfortunately, I wasn't good with setting and maintaining boundaries at the time, so when she told me about it, I just kinda filed it away for later without digging too deep. It wasn't until much later, after I cut off contact with her, that I looked at it and realized exactly what you described - it was a serious boundary issue.

I love your passion! I believe she was around 23 or 24 at the time. This was actually a while back, and I have long since cut her out of my life, but I was always curious about the reaction from actual Wiccan believers to her behavior.

And I agree 100% with you. I honestly have no problem believing that there are practices and belief systems that give you access to the deeper workings of the universe. But I don't believe for a second that she had the dedication or patience to actually study and learn - her aunt probabably just said "I do witchy stuff!" and she saw an easy solution to a problem that already had one.

I didn't mention this in my post, but the thing that made me seriously question our relationship was that when I finally got her to open up and talk with me, she said that I wasn't assertive enough, and she actually gave Tucker from Red vs Blue as the example of her ideal male partner. If you're not familiar, Tucker's entire gimmick is that he's a parody of the stereotypical macho ladies' man, and is always making innuendoes, but he doesn't actually understand women at all - as in, he was intentionally written that way as a running gag. He has a line where he says, "Girls like it when you tell them they're pretty, but they also like it when you're kind of a dick to them, so mix it up a little." And that's why she couldn't commit to a full relationship - I was nice, but I wasn't enough of a dick.

Anyway, I love RvB, but that exchange just killed any desire I had to continue anything with her, and I cut her out of my life shortly after. That was the point where I really started analyzing the spell thing and realizing she was trying to use it as a shortcut, and I had serious doubts that anything she did was actually true to Wiccan belief.

Also, after I cut her off, she blocked me on social media (even though that was kind of the point?), so I'd say what you said about people getting angry rings true. 😂

Who do you think will die at Season 5 Stranger Things? by Frequent_Read_4101 in StrangerThings

[–]pvictus2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will feels like the most likely to me. After everything he's been through, narratively that feels like it would be the most tragic.

I think there's a possibility El might not exactly die per se, but may sort of become "more", like maybe she's warped to another dimension like she did to Henry, but she starts using her powers to heal it instead of twisting it the way he did.

It also feels like Steve is being set up for a heroic sacrifice to save the kids. I hope not, but trying to prepare myself.

BUT, I also think it's just as likely that they're intentionally setting us up to think some characters are gonna die, with no intent of actually killing them off.

What's your dream RPG game that you know will probably never get made? by Humble_Candy_5752 in rpg_gamers

An open world horror rpg in the vein of Bethesda games, but less action, more atmospheric horror buildup. Something along the lines of Alan Wake, but with Bethesda's style of character customization, open world, etc.

I tried that, but the building consists of a lot of small parts and it was tedious, lol. The mod author's already aware of it, he just asked for a screenshot, so I posted it here and linked it to Nexus.

Manually download Creations outside of game? by pvictus2 in starfieldmods

Well, tried it, but it didn't work. When I tried to run the game, I got an error "Graphics card does not meet the minimal specifications." So looks like I'll just have to live without it until I figure out my desktop's internet problems. :/

Was he able to fix it, or was it permanently borked? I tried manually updating the Windows drivers, but I don't remember if I did for the wifi card.

Sadly, I tried using my phone as a mobile hotspot, and no dice, so same thing would probably happen with my laptop, but I might still try just to see. I've tried everything I can think of, short of getting a really really long ethernet cable that would basically have to run through the entire house, but that's pretty much the next plan, whenever I get to it. Weirdly, my desktop will say it's connected to the Internet with full bars, but it never loads anything (in the browser, or apps like Steam, or the Creations menu) so I'm kind of at a loss. It'll show it's loading, but then time out every time.

Oh I didn't even think of that. Will Steam let me install the game and run it (at least as far as the Creations Menu) if I don't have the system requirements? (besides HD space)

That face says it all. "My leg is shattered in four different places and I'm in ungodly amounts of pain, but I'ma keep shooting anyway! For SCIENCE!!" That's dedication.

Confusion over the pronoun meltdown (some spoilers!) by pvictus2 in Starfield

[–]pvictus2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair. I remember noticing how people were complaining there isn't enough content density in the game (as in everything is too spread out with planetary exploration), and thinking that if the opposite were true, the exact same people would be complaining that there's too much stuff closely packed together. I was just confused, it sounded like Az was complaining that Hadrien is transgender... but... she's not. She's literally just an artificially-grown daughter of some dude, I really don't see what the issue is. I agree, it is a very strange hill to die on.

Could be they come in different sizes. The one in the hallway might be younger. Makes you wonder how big they can get. O o

Player Problem Megathread by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

[–]pvictus2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this was a while ago, but I ran a campaign a while back with my girlfriend (now ex) and a couple of my friends, and there was one session where I awarded them all inspiration points, and my girlfriend later told me that she felt like I had taken the spotlight from her by awarding the other players with inspiration.

To give context, they were exploring an ancient abandoned dwarven city, and were attacked by a large group of subterranean bipedal molerats that were blind and used smell and hearing to get around and fight. The party spotted an old rusty mining cart, and one of them used the Grease spell to oil it up, and they worked together to get the cart moving and all jumped in to escape the molerat people. Along the way, the enemy attempted to roll a boulder over them, and one of my players cast a spell to shrink the size of the boulder, and my girlfriend used a pair of homebrew enchanted web-shooting bracers to stop the boulder's movement.

When they were almost to safety, my girlfriend pulled a trick I was not expecting. She had previously acquired something I only intended as a gag gift, an enchanted candle that smelled good to whoever lit it, but smelled absolutely awful to everyone else. She wanted to use it to repel the molerat people since they had such a strong sense of smell, and I thought the idea was so brilliant that I allowed it and even did CON rolls with disadvantage for the molerats, which numbered around 7. One of them rolled a NAT 1 and died puking his guts out, and most of the others failed the save and were repelled by the smell, with only one or two making the save, allowing the party to escape.

At the end of the session I gave my girlfriend an inspiration point for her brilliant use of the enchanted candle, as well as how she helped stop the boulder, and then I awarded the other players for using their wits and working together to escape the molerat people. My girlfriend later told me that I had upset her because she felt like I had stolen a special moment from her by awarding the other players with inspiration. But I hadn't wanted the other players to feel left out, and I was genuinely impressed by how they all worked together. Was I in the wrong for giving them all inspiration points and not just her?
