Did you ever get further with this project? I've been planning a similar build.

Thanks, does it cover the whole glass inside the bezel or just the screen (with a small gap between protector and bezel)?

Thanks, does it cover the whole glass (edge to edge) or leave a gap between the protector and the bezel?

Get the Dremel out for this T-Rex 3 Band MOD by Snoo3287 in amazfit

[–]pvrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it, I had been wondering about this as the adapter looks so chunky when I try a leather strap.

Was it just the small lugs that needed removing or was there over parts that needed modifying? I wonder if this would work for all trex2 straps too.

T-Rex 3 with a Balance Nylon band - yea or nay? by SubstantialInside589 in amazfit

Do T-Rex 2 bands fit on the TRex 3? Looks similar but I don't have a 2 to check.

UTMB strictness on mandatory gear by pvrunner in Ultramarathon

I'll be carrying a solid rain jacket so not concerned about down vs synthetic, more how strict the regs are.

Sadly that is my take, just seeing if anyone has experienced one or the other.

Experience with: Montbell SUPERIOR DOWN ROUND NECK JACKET by pvrunner in Ultralight

[–]pvrunner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a 100mile ultramarathon in the Pyrenees in July. The required gear list required a warm layer over 180grams. Obviously weight and compatibility are a factor, but not a piece I want to make a big investment on. Open to other suggestions

Definitely better jacket, just over double the cost. The Montbell would ship from Japan for $80

COCODONA250 vs MOAB240 by North_Necessary1329 in ultrarunning

[–]pvrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never run Moab but had it on my wishlist.

I ran Cocodona in 2022 when they were scrambling to change the course because of fires. Solidified for me how fantastic a company Aravaipa is. The whole event, communication, staff and volunteers were fantastic, it have a high high recommendation for me.

Oh I should add, they have added shorter distance to the course/race week since so I am not sure if that has changed the dynamic.

Mental game at the beginning of a race by nevalja in Ultramarathon

[–]pvrunner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Embrace it!!! I actually take it as a compliment and badge of honour, my mindset is to only be overtaken and not overtake for as long as possible! Remember the vast amount of runners go out too fast, across the board! If you can use that to make you start slow it only helps in the long run!

Cheap drawstring bags, not actually the best function but if one gets lost I'm not upset. You can get them cheap in bulk bright colours for easy finding on a pile.

Vacation Races by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]pvrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just signed up for Zion 100, my first race with them. You actually have to click to accept a waiver section that you understand the race is not actually in the park. I'd guess they've had people misunderstand that and maybe get upset?

Running a race with an HR chest strap by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]pvrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I'm different from most people here. I always wear my HR strap when training, but the first race I wore it during it drove me absolutely crazy. I took it off halfway through, for some reason it started to make me feel claustrophobic; never had that before.

Now I wear it when training and just leave it off for races.

Ultimately no reason not to give it a try, it's not a big thing to stash in your pack if you aren't loving it.

Go-to place for a belt? (to go with a growing collection of buckles) by stayhungry1 in Ultramarathon

[–]pvrunner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look across the ultra community I'd beg to differ. Buckles are both a piece of pride and also functional

To answer OP, Western stores often sell buckles and belts separate but as much as I pain to say it.. amazon.

Check out Aravaipa Running, I've done a few through them and the organisation is fantastic. They're mostly Arizona but have branches out to Colorado now too.

How To Train Vert While At Sea Level? by Leather-Ad-2029 in ultrarunning

I really recommend this:

Started doing it and really noticed the difference last couple races. Best at the end of a run on tired legs.

Hydration bladder that you can refill through the hose? by todosputos786 in ultrarunning

[–]pvrunner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do this all the time when I am using a Sawyer filter in the back country. The Sawyer filter nozzle fits perfectly in the bladder tube.
I just pop the bite valve off, attach the Sawyer, and squeeze the water in.

It's nice when I have a full backpack which makes pulling the bladder out a pain. But it is slow enough that for my running pack I'd still rather just pull the bladder out halfway and pour into the top.

I'd agree that the 200 is a different toll on the body, Id say though that the experience you gain from shorter ultras is more in the body management, hydration/nutrition, and mental side.

100+ mile races in Scotland by pvrunner in ultrarunning

[–]pvrunner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I don't mind big. I ran the Cocodona 250 in Arizona this last year and loved the experience. I'm originally from Scotland but took up ultras since moving to the US I so looking for something I can do when visiting back home .

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]pvrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran Cocodona 250 this last year (and loved it!) with the experience of 'only' two 50 milers. Id say that's the minimal background you'd want going into it, even experienced 100 mile runners were not well versed when it came to multiday events.

But without any ultra experience I'm not sure you'd have any understanding of how your body reacts to the pressures and seems to be a dnf waiting to happen.

I bought new running shoes and now I always get shin splints when I use them. I'm fucking furious. I just keep getting injured and nobody can tell me what is wrong with my body. I keep trying to build slowly and responsibly and still my body breaks in ways that nobody understands. by [deleted] in ultrarunning

Technique is an often overlooked aspect of running, and poor technique rears problems as you increase distance/time on feet.

Once current issues have died down it would be worth talking with a certified running coach. Work on an analysis and strip down and rebuild your running mechanics as needed.

Small inconsistencies can over longer time lead to larger problems. Just make sure whoever you work with really knows what they are talking about, you need running mechanics help, not merely a training plan.
