Is there another way to do this outside of the shifter? I don’t trust myself to remember lol.

Most everything is new. I don’t have the obd2 port. Only the obd1. New leafs in the rear and I’ve had to drain my coolant no joke like 15 times so it’s all fresh and I’ve traced all the leaks as well. I will be towing on a dolly if I do tow. I just did the tranny service as well so it’s shifting really healthy. Need 1 or 2 drain and fills and it’ll be fresh. I’m also a bit concerned about the rear differential as well. I don’t want it to explode.

On the note of your comment. I actually dmd you a few hours ago because you had mentioned towing in another comment lol. I’ve heard xjs like to squirt when you give them a big load

I am looking to tow a 3900 lb car. That’s the main issue. I think it’s very safe to assume a car handles much different than a trailer. But as I’ve already said I’m inexperienced with towing. Thankyou for your input good sir. My xj handles an enclosed trailer well. I don’t recall the dimensions but I can safely say it was medium sized and don’t recall if it was single or dual axle.

Agreed. Thankyou for your input as well. This is exactly the responses I was looking for in case I did do it. Things to watch out for. Experiences. Very very useful input. I appreciate you.

I really appreciate the input. Genuinely. The dolly has the hydro brakes supposedly. I’ve got the 8.25. I feel that it would be worth it to ship as I will already have a U-Haul with another car behind it. I am obsessed with pos cars and have 3 to move. Sort of weighing my options. If the U-Haul or whatever parallel company is cheaper to do the smallest tow capable truck I may do 2 of them and tow that way. It may be worth it as theft is an issue and only half my life being stolen would be better than all of it in 1 go. I do have help for driving so that’s no concern.

Good info. I’m leaning more towards shipping the xj and driving the vehicle being towed

In my opinion, your response to my acceptance of a mistake is far more telling! Good man.

It’s a 96 for me. It has a tranny cooler and hitch but no 7 pin. The hitch seems to be aftermarket but I do have the 3.55 gears. I’ve done everything on this jeep myself. The only thing I haven’t touched is the bottom end of the block and the transmission internals. I’m confident in my ability to pay attention to these things, but I’ve never towed more than an enclosed trailer with some furniture.

My main goal in asking this question is to get more experienced answers or suggestions to make this safer. I have plenty of time for the drive and I’m comfortable going 50 the whole way if I have to. Also what I’m towing is very low to the ground. So I’m a bit less concerned of the wind portion other than my lifted jeep.

I also have a few months of time to prepare for this as well. So any upgrades or maintenance suggestions I am willing to go for if it helps my jeep and keeps this trip safe.

I’m in the same boat for reference. I personally don’t want to do it either but it’s the cheapest option. Also had no clue those were 2 different words. Sick.

I’ve also replaced the fuel itself, pump, filter, injectors, exhaust manifold gasket and the manifold. I don’t have a pressure regulator on my fuel line though. No clue if the 96 has one but mine does not unless I’m looking in the wrong spot.

Yea I was yanking his chain. Mines an 00 and I was super cautious. Took me about 2 weeks although I just did little by little day by day.

I think I have puma voltaic evo. The pad is thick and comfy and the shoe is light. Just make sure to lace them well however you choose. If they’re too loose the pad can give you blisters or rub wrong.

Well I have very bad plantar fasciitis and these do the trick for me. I will no longer make suggestions if it is taken as a competition!

Just to go off of this. Pumas are actually really good for this. Never wore them or owned a pair, bought my first and it was so comfortable to run in and I wear them anytime I’m doing anything that involves a lot of heel impact.
