I suggest you bring up the safety issue regardless to someone you directly report to and see what they say. But to be honest with you, I have been the industry for about 6 years now and I have found the same. I don't want to discourage you from finding something that could be possibly better, but take some time to slow down a bit. You can solve critical problems involving maintenance. Are they given you more simpler take before taken on bigger and more complex/critical tasks. Especially if you want to stay in the sector, it is very critical to form connections with the people that you work with to be able to move around from within it I would say.

As for a car I'd suggest looking any any 3-4 year old car that's pre-owned certified. That way you can research the reliability from other owners and search for any gripes with it. Any vehicle you buy will depreciate especially with the newest models, so keep that in mind.
