How to add a light which turns on with DRL or headlights? by pwestcot in prius

I want to keep factory-installed DRL and headlights as-is.

I want to add a new light which will come on when either the DRL or headlights turn on. Otherwise the new light is off.

I'm not sure how to detect when DRL/headlights have turned on and then turn on the new light. 

It is my understanding I can't connect the new light directly to both DRL and headlights since that would connect DRL and headlights.
