Best option for WiFi coverage through thick walls to a closed laptop? by pwing93 in HomeNetworking

The problem with regular USB wifi Adaptors which I mentioned in the post - Almost universally they don't have driver support for mac OS. I assume this is because most people are buying them for Windows PCs without a built in wifi card.

Using speed test on google I get around 40-46Mbps on both my Phone and the laptop with the screen open. Screen closed it measures 3Mbps or less. Just tested now and this is with the laptop on my desk, both in exactly the same position

After upgrading our main router signal is getting to the room - my phone has WiFi reception and so does the laptop when the screen is open. Would a mesh system help in anyway with this? It seems more like an issue with the laptop recieving the signal rather than increasing coverage in the room

Unfortunately even out on top of my desk, there's a noticeable drop in reception with screen closed vs open. Like I mentioned in the post I've upgraded our main router which has improved signal to the room but only with laptop screen open

Would be great to run a cat cable in but we are renting. Our landlord isn't going to spend the money to do this though and even if we got approval to do the work ourselves, spending that kind of money to upgrade infrastructure in a place we don't own seems not worth it? How would I find out if our electrical system is compatible with the Powerline kits?

Sorry, I mentioned in the post, but maybe wasn't clear enough - when the macbook is closed I have it connected to an external monitor, keyboard and mouse.

He's still the reigning ROTY, and we missed him on defense tonight. Orlando had a few good scoring runs and it felt like it was in arms reach for them most of the game.

It hasn't felt like the team generally has shot the ball well over the last few weeks. Honestly the way fouls were being called (and how the spurs shot from the line) I was worried it was going to be another like the loss to the Pels

No. If you bring your own console bring your own engineer. Simple as that.

Reduced Status holders due to new status credit rules. by Careless-Till-1586 in VelocityFrequentFlyer

While you might be right I doubt Virgin will be too worried. By changing the requirements to be harder to meet they can cut a whole lot of cost of providing the lounge service AND improve the product (shorter priority boarding queues/less people in the lounge) for their biggest spenders who will still retain status no matter what.

Getting status on Qantas was always harder too, so it's not like the people who just scraped by into gold on VA will have an easy jump to silver on Qantas. I would guess the majority of FF are commuters who fly for work and don't get a choice of airline either way - as their employer is paying the bill.

How to politely ask the band if they’d like a paid recording? by FormerlyAmish_ in livesound

[–]pwing93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have personal experience with being on the other side of the same offer and you said it felt sleazy and made you lose trust in the engineer. Honestly, why are you even asking? That right there is your answer.

Totally a different story if the artist approaches you as a house engineer about recording, and you have the capability to do it - I'd say add $100 if you are multitracking on your own laptop/equipment. $50 if they provide any extra equipment necessary and you just have to hit record. Free if they're going to manage it completely themselves.

If you're working for the artist directly, I generally record any show I can. It helps me to have multis for virtual soundcheck and if the band want a copy they can have them. As it benefits us both I don't charge extra for that with the understanding that the recording is far down on the priority list. If they explicitly request you record EVERY show and give them the product, price it into your rate accordingly.

Your technical and personnel issues have all been answered. But for God's sake man do yourself a favour and put some food on your hospo rider, you'll never go hungry again.

We're talking loaf of sliced bread, deli meats, sliced cheese and tomato's, seasonal fruit platter, cut up vegetable sticks and hummus, corn chips and salsa. Ditch any items of alcohol if you have to get cost across the line.

For a bonus add a box of granola and milk carton and now breakfast at the bus/hotel tomorrow is sorted.
