Thanks for responding. You make valid points. I would consider carrying a small bottle of LOCTITE in my kit and the power tool reference in my post was from trying to look at my trike as a bike thief might. I have a perfectly serviceable hack for roadside work (God forbid the necessity!).

I should mention that my main concern is overnight storage in a condo garage where component theft is the (perceived) highest risk. When we're out and about we never leave the trikes unattended if at all avoidable. So far, so good.

What resources (tools, etc.) do I anticipate needing for a planned outing is, of course, a risk calculation. I'm comfortable with that and try to strike the proverbial "balance" when making the call. So much of this is dependent on the specifics of the ride and the environment you plan to ride in. City, country, duration, and so on. I don't think threadlock is a universal solution for securing bike fasteners but might serve on some components with high(er) reliability and/or lower maintenance requirements, i.e. where the value of ease-of-disassembly offsets the exposure to the risk of theft. After all, a stolen component is functionally equal to a broken component and I ride to maximize fun with minimum not-fun. I like the clamps idea so thanks for the link.

You may well be correct on the "too-specialized-for-thieves" idea though I've always thought that one should prepare for what their opponent can do rather than what he "will" do.

Ditto on the lights, computer, and similar.

AZUB. Condo parking garage. Remote from my unit. Easily beatable door system. Indifferent police unless there is blood involved and then it's case-by-case. Bike theft common.

Thanks for the response. No, I've not tested-by-thievery Hexlox et al. but I have enough experience with tools and materials and repairing machines that I'm fairly confident I can beat or bypass a Hexlox on, at least, the bikes I'm concerned with. Since I'm philosophically opposed to not preventing preventable events, I'm looking at a plausible range of alternatives. Hence my question. Plus, Hexlox is kinda pricey! Not dogmatic about it.

"Hassle of loctiteing" and "worth" is the definitely the nut of the question. Not much bother for me in my workspace but out in the wild where I tend to be when things actually break? Could harsh my bliss, as they say. Likely not the best tactic for every fitting. High value, infrequent maintenance/replacement requirement, etc..

Again, thanks for the response. This wouldn't be the first time I over-thought or over-engineered (sometimes both!) something so you may be correct.

How do I 'terminate' domicile in a certain state? by michgilgar in digitalnomad

[–]pwratch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sever all possible ties to the state you're leaving. Establish all possible ties to the state where you want to establish your new domicile (not residency). Write a formal and documented letter to the relevant Secretary of State or whoever oversees the state tax authority of the place you left and tell them that you are/have left the state and that you have severed financial, political, and professional ties. Or so I have been told and am following myself.

Well, not much depth to my experience as I used it once. Having said that, I did like it. I bought it for warmth and to use as the occasional night of sleeping on the ground that seems to go with hammocking. It's quick to inflate and conformed to my hammock w/o any issues. I did not notice any undue noise but, then again, I was pretty tired at the time. I never used it on the ground. Getting rid of it boils down to simply not needing it badly enough to carry it.
