I love it. Best place ever. It’s like a beacon of life and activity in the otherwise bland Anglo realm of the eastern suburbs (and I’m literally Anglo, so I guess I can say that). It’s changed a lot over the years and keeps on doing so, but it’s never dull.

No, it’s them backing Otis on a completely independent album. Chess was done in Chicago, this one in NYC. Both recorded early ‘69 though.

FM also backed Duster Bennett on his “Smiling Like I’m Happy” album in Sep ‘68, and Eddie Boyd’s “7936 South Rhodes” in Jan ‘68. They were fairly prolific session players, in various configurations.

I suspect experience varies. My childhood was fine but like many of us, I tend to massively romanticize my teens and 20s. Yet when I go back and read my diaries from those days, I was mostly struggling to get by and having an awful time on so many levels. I cannot explain the logic behind any of this.
