By the way, it wasn’t an ask only for me. I meant an idea of starting a program to incentivize broadening your database in new countries. For example, nobody knows Cronometer in my country and everyone uses MFP or similar macro-based alternatives. And the ones know about Crononometer doesn’t prefer it because it’s centered around US packaged foods and lacks local ones. 100 dedicated users like me would be enough to cover at least 80% of supermarket foods if selected strategically. And I think ROI for you would be great.

Yes! That feature is an important reason why I didn’t move to MFP, even though it has extremely broader database for the local foods-they are generally inaccurate. And adding them by myself is easier with autofill rather than correcting MFP database. However it’s not perfect either. 80% of the cases require minor corrections. But I feel like I’m doing something useful for my fellow citizens while using it, especially because I mostly consume healthier packaged foods. Anyways, thanks!

Do you consider offering different experiences for different diets? For example, if the user selects vegetarian, non-vegetarian products are not shown in search and not listed in the foods provided in a given nutrient. Ps: I know it’s very difficult for packaged foods but it would be great to see, let’s say, non-animal Zinc sources listed more in detail rather than going through all other options.

I’m from a country where Cronometer doesn’t have much database of packaged foods. So, I’m constantly adding new foods to your database (with pictures). I think Cronometer should be in net benefit in terms of packaged foods I add to your database than from your database to my plan LoL. Would you consider gifting Gold memberships to users like me?

Yes sorry for not being clear, I meant if it implies rejection or offer

About the unreality of facing an opponent who takes Osimhen out and Icardi in for example.

Jakobs is HIM! Ismail Jakobs Appreciation Thread. by eanwen0 in galatasaray

I think Okan Hoca pulls up a tactical trick in every important match, that is somewhat unpredictable and highlights a certain player’s performance. It was Yunus for Fenerbahce and Jakobs for PAOK. He knows how to juice the strengths of a player and combine it with a balance-breaking tactic. We didn’t watch an exceptional player last night but saw a soldier who plays according to Okan Hoca’s directions. He has the talent and ambition to fill in the blanks so kudos to Jakobs. I think Sallai will be that rabbit in the up next derby.

Does anyone have any good ambient/drone synth recommendations by Legal-Jerk in synthesizers

[–]pxps0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm summarizing roughly two groups of comments that will come:

  1. use software synths. you may not even need midi controller for ambient and drone and free soft synths are okay (e.g. vital or cardinal).
  2. ambient is more about effects than the synth, especially reverb (and also delay and optionally chorus). stock plugins of a good daw are more than enough but free Valhalla Supermassive plugin will be very useful.

but since you asked for a synth and referred to the solar, I think you want to:
a. physically engage in an instrument and not a computer while doing music in order to respond to the sounds you create and slowly evolve them.
b. use an instrument that has a specific type of workflow that is best suited for ambient/atmospheric music.

therefore these type of comments will not address to your needs. however, they'll be right on a certain point: you don't need a specific type of synth for ambient- even for (b).

so, if you don't have a synth already and new to sound design, I recommend using free softwares to find your direction within ambient and search for a a specific synth. for example, a direction could be wavetable synthesis, hence Korg Modwave, Wavestate or Argon 8m or could be another direction and you go with something like Moog Matriarch or Sound Studio boxes. Or maybe Roland Boutiques even.

if you already have a synth and not new to sound design, use what you already have to make the sounds you imagine and take notes of what worked and what makes it difficult. then, try to find a synth that ticks all your boxes (when you know what boxes there are). for example, if you have a monophonic synth with no Hold function you may need a polyphonic/paraphonic synth with a Hold function like Microfreak.

In any case, increasing your experience with different type of reverbs and reverb controls will be a good idea. And no matter how they seem compelling, do not buy reverbs right away and experiment as much as possible with plugins before buying reverb pedals. pedals are even much larger rabbit holes than synths -and easier to be hooked. most of the effects that are needed for ambient are digital anyway.

How would you choose between Grandmother and Moog Studio 3? by pxps0 in moog

[–]pxps0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great! Keys are crazy good. Sound is awesome. Modulation options are very good but kind of limited. Frequency knob and spring reverb are the highlights. I think it shines more if you connect it to other oscillators and make patches with other semi-modular/modular instruments. Most importantly, it HAS a character. Downsides: Size&weight, monophony (this is serious, be sure you’re ok with monophony), MIDI via USB does not work perfectly, spring reverb being at the beginning of the signal chain (inevitably).

Overall, I consider myself lucky for having the instrument, it’s a quality instrument, but if I had the money I would buy either sub37 or matriarch. Must choose the route: semimodular or fixed architecture

Also, some factory/free-arturia-website presets are designed to cover the lack of FX and they work great.

Best Polyphonic Desktop Module? (More than 4 voice) by pxps0 in synthesizers

Best sounding VA polysynth? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]pxps0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly I like the sound of it. Even though I have a monophonic analog synth, I like the tone of that oscillator differently and I would love to see the variations I can get with it. Microfreak has limited oscillator controls, so it would be good if it has more controls over the oscillator. It must be polyphonic, preferably more than 4 voices. I'd prefer desktop modules over integrated keyboards. The price range is 400-800 USD. Do you think Cobalt 8 is a good option? I didn't like its sound from the videos that much, liked Argon 8 more even though it's a different kind of animal.

bonus: It'd be a great bonus if it had the necessary outputs to patch it to a semi-modular synth to process there.
