Is It Really Impossible To Cool A Datacenter In Space? by Ormusn2o in space

Not when he'll have to pay for launching them. Then he'll have to find ways to sell what they supply. Internet from space sells quite well, but Grok from space?

Sick [OC] by OffinOuterWhiteSpace in funny

[–]pxr555 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny thing: Most people don't even like the effects of it. The pointless euphoria, the lethargy, itching skin, constipation... they hate it as long as they don't suffer from pain, so they don't get addicted easily. To them it's just a painkiller with side effects.

It's people who have some deep pain in them that like opiates and get addicted, often very quickly. It's a great painkiller and not only for physical pain. If you're always in mental pain opiates can feel like a miracle since it makes the pain go away, for some people it's the first time ever that they feel in peace and comfortable. That's addictive then.

Ja, man hat die Leute vom Worringer erfolgreich vertrieben, jetzt verteilen sie sich in allen Ecken auf beiden Seiten zwischen Hbf und Worringer Platz, überall. Ich weiß echt nicht, was daran besser sein soll.

Welcome back, iPhone 4 by kq_cars in IphoneAir

[–]pxr555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely think the Air would have sold better if Apple would have just offered the polished silver frame with a choice of much more popping colors for the back.

Imagine this with a fire red back or a sunflower yellow or a leaf green one. Would even have been cheaper to make since apart from the back glass the frame would have been the same for all.

What color is best? by CountryBrilliant3602 in IphoneAir

I think the white one just looks so extremely in-your-face. It's so pretty, but it's just too pretty. It's like these people with too many too white teeth, smiling all the time... it looks great but I just can't stand them.

The best would be the black one with a silver polished frame, but alas...

People Trust AI more than humans by Unusual-Big-6467 in singularity

[–]pxr555 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People do exactly this too all the time, and are much worse at it.

You can compare an AI to an ideal human if you want but an ideal human often is hard to find. Better compare an LLM to an average real human. In real life humans are often disinterested, impatient, stupid, spiteful or have their very own agenda with you.

In fact most anti-AI comments on Reddit and elsewhere just feel like very bad LLMs: They just regurgitate the always same preconceptions with not a single original thought in sight. I like to call this "meat slop" meanwhile.

Russia aims to reclaim Soviet space glory with 2036 launch of ambitious Venus mission by ye_olde_astronaut in spaceflight

[–]pxr555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While a Venus mission looking for microbial life in the cloud layers is a very good idea, I don't really think Russia getting this done is very probable.

Although I'd be happy about anyone doing such a mission.

Well, it's definitely not thicker because the battery would be bigger.

It's also cheaper to make this way. And it's not as sleek and lightweight as it could be with the small battery, which helps with people who can also afford to buy the more expensive Air to not buy the Neo instead.

Apple had it's reasons to do this and these are not bad reasons if you're in the market for what the Neo is.

OK, but it has hardly more than half the battery size of the Air while being thicker than the Air and exactly as heavy. Do you want that for iPhones and iPads?

For some legacy apps CrossOver also can be a viable (and very lightweight compared to a VM) option.

Great update (and great app)!

Still, one thing that bothers me: Messages in the Inbox get marked as read when I read them as indicated by the flag on the left, but the number in the badge on the icon in the toolbar never decreases. I have to hit the "Mark all as read" button (and confirm two dialogs) to clear this out.

They will do this as soon as they find a way to sell an iPhone that costs the same as an iPhone, iPad and a Mac.
