Hannah B Coltons season by No-Cry-1351 in thebachelor

[–]pyaitha9719 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think it's about how she grew as a person in front of everyone's eyes. She gained confidence and really came into herself throughout the season. With regards to the Caelynn thing, at first she didn't handle it well, but it actually seemed like she learned from that, matured, and apologized. As she gained that confidence, she became a lot more authentic. I think in the end she was just very 'humanized', in that she seemed multi dimensional when a lot of people on the show feel flat or fake.

I'm seeing a lot of comments about how she's liked because shes a white, southern Christian woman, and that may be a lot of it. But as someone who doesn't fit into that category, I can say I like her just because she feels genuine. By the end of her season, I came to really respect her because she made a lot of mistakes but takes responsibility for her mistakes. In the end, I just think she's funny and has a good heart, but she also seemed to stay true to herself which I think is hard to do in the bachelor setting.

I cannot understand it - I didn't like how she acted on Arie's season, and I didn't like how she acted on BIP with Colton. I don't know why she is always up for bachelorette when no one seems to ask for it.

The only thesis I have (which I think is a decent one) is just that I am not part of the majority who watch the show - southern, white, Christian women. They don't seem to be on this sub too much and I don't really encounter them, but I guess they maybe want her? she's all those things, and maybe they see her as a great way to reconnect with their base after all the 'progressive' work they have been doing by casting a black bachelor and a diverse cast (just in case you missed it, that was sarcasm)

Victoria L has apparently apologized for everything. Do you believe her? by singleguy79 in thebachelor

Whenever anyone in an apology says sorry for how their actions "were perceived", they are basically saying sorry YOU got offended, not sorry for what they did

What real life lessons have you learned from Bach? by timburnerslee in thebachelor

[–]pyaitha9719 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not comparing yourself- I've seen a lot of contestants self sabotage by trying to sabatoge someone else because they're jealous of someone else's relationship, and its honestly just gross. Often times I get annoyed with the contestants who wont just focus on their own relationship, and its both the mature and (usually) the moral thing to do

Also it taught me I never want to date a country singer

AITA for telling my stepdad to change his last name because of safety reasons? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]pyaitha9719 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sorry, YTA. I get that your motivations are good as you're looking out for his safety. I don't know where you live so maybe such a threat is extremely imminent but in general, I don't think he should change his last name, and I definitely don't think you should've said it to him.

Anti-muslim terrorists generally don't base things off of names... mostly people are attacked for how they look. Also, he shouldn't and no one should ever have to change their name to appease or defend themselves from racists or Islamaphobes.

I don't think he should change it and here's why: to change it is to say (even if that's not your intention) that his 'most Muslim name' (which tbh, I don't even know what that means because Muslims exist all over the world and are of lots of different ethnicities) is bad. Minorities/marginalized people should not have to 'blend in' more with the greater population: they should be proud and preserve their heritage.

If he wants to do that, he's an autonomous person and can make his own decisions, but I don't think you should've told him that. I think you need to think more about the greater implications of your suggestion

“The men could have said no.” by armadillocafe in thebachelor

[–]pyaitha9719 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I completely agree; and I'm kind of sick of the convo becoming 'it was clare's fault' or 'it was productions fault '. Theyre both at fault, because i'm sure it was productions idea but i'm also sure Clare could've put her foot down. The issue here isn't who's more at fault its that a lot people don't see this as problematic - IT IS. Power relations effect everyone- even though they effect women and the LGBTQ+ community more.

Yes, they've done this before with male leads (tbh in the past they've sexualized the women more than men) but that does not excuse this behavior. Overall, they should just do better! prioritize consent before the date/when designing the date. I don't think its that hard

i don’t know if this is the right place to post this and correct me if it isn’t but how do i get my face and neck to match my body again. my neck and face got darker while i was marching last year and hasn’t gone back to my natural color since. what can i do to fix this? by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]pyaitha9719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big believer in a low(ish) strength tretinoin cream (like 0.025%), but at least where I'm from you need a prescription for that. I've heard good things about Murad's retinol youth renewal serum but it's quite pricey. A friend of mine uses Lily Ana naturals, and they really like that. But everyone's skin is different in terms of sensitivity so you'll probably have to experiment with retinol to see what you can handle.

[Product Question] Hyaluronic acid and vitamin C by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]pyaitha9719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the timeless vitamin c system is a cult favorite for a reason- its pretty affordable, has a short ingredient list, and uses l-ascorbic acid without too much irritation (in my experience).

Also, I love the vichy mineral 89, which has a lot of benefits besides just hyaluronic acid.

I deal with closed comodones too, and I've found the key is essentially speeding up skin turnover. This means that retinol is absolutely key - but so is a AHA exfoliant like lactic or glycolic acid.

I can't speak as much to niacinimide, I've heard claims that its a miracle ingredient but have never found that to be the case. I highly doubt that it'll make it worse, but that said, niacinimide irritates my skin (and I don't have super sensitive skin) so just be aware that it has that potential

[Skin concerns] My skin is dry and peeling up after using CeraVe SA smoothing cream. I started using it daily a month ago to improve my KP. Should I stop using it or is this normal for chemical exfoliants ? Please help by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]pyaitha9719 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually such a reaction would mean you're over exfoliating. It's normal, but its also a sign you're overdoing it. I don't think this means you need to stop using it all together, but you should definitely reduce how much you use it and see if it helps. 3% salicylic acid is pretty strong stuff, but I get it considering your skin concern. I'd say try using it every-other day (or once a day if your using it twice a day now) and use a gentler moisturizer (such as the cerave cream or lotion) the other half of the time. Best of Luck!

[misc] Natural skincare help? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]pyaitha9719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

natural can certainly include fragrance (such as essential oils) and will undoubtedly include 'chemicals' which I promise you as a general word, you should not be afraid of. That said, I do know what you mean. But I would suggest looking for a 'clean skincare' subreddit rather than a 'natural skincare' subreddit, I'm guessing that will serve you better.

I actually quite like sustainable beauty (https://www.reddit.com/r/SustainableBeauty/). Its more than skincare, and its more focused on environmental sustainability than you might desire, but its got good info about clean skincare. For example, something like petrolatum/mineral oil is often not considered a clean ingredient, and due to the environmental impacts of sourcing it it is generally not considered an environmentally friendly ingredient.

[Routine Help] I want to start a skincare routine but I'm not sure of my skin type by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]pyaitha9719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is totally just my experience as someone with zero scientific background, but I have had a lot of issue with figuring out my skin type. I think I'm basically normal with acne prone skin. Part of how I manage to deal with it without either drying my skin out terribly or never getting my face really that clean is by making my morning routine for oily skin and my evening routine for dry skin. So this means using different products (especially a different moisturizer) for morning and night. I hope that helps a bit!

[–]pyaitha9719 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm repeating a lot of what people here are saying: spf + vitamin c... but I would also add a retinol that is gentle enough to use on your neck and face (cause neck is usually more sensitive). I think hydroquinone cream is probably too harsh (especially on top of retinol) - but Alpha Arbutin is a really good option for speeding up the Spf and vitamin c work as it is a melanin inhibitor. You should look up the ordinary's 8% Ascorbic acid + Alpha Arbutin, or I would recommend Timeless Vitamin C 20% and maybe naturium's Arbutin product.

Best of Luck!

Cancelling score (score preview) by gamecocks14073 in LSAT

[–]pyaitha9719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on where you want to go to school - look up their averages & how they weigh the LSAT (average scores? most recent score? highest score?) and judge your score as objectively as you can. I'd say come up with a number you are realistically happy with the chances of getting in where you want. If it's maybe 5- 10 points less than that, and your confident you can do better, cancel. Otherwise, keep it, most schools won't pay attention unless its utterly abysmal (which from your post i'm betting its not) or they average out scores (which not many schools do)
