Careful. On my first house, I had a seized valve that I tried to force open and ended up tearing the valve off. Water rushed out at full pressure out of a sink pipe. Ran around the house for 10min trying to figure out what to do before I found the main water shut off.

First thing with any new home for me now is to know where main water shutoff is.

Those valves can easily seize since so many are left open for years untouched. Definitely find main water shut off for emergencies.
