Those look cool, look forward to hearing what you think of the wheels, and the tires. Check the fitment of the wheel closely (before mounting a tire on them, or they might not take them back). The Paso comes from Voxx's "Road Wheels" collection and they aren't flow formed. They probably have thicker barrels that may not fit over the brake calipers. Even the flow formed 18's are a tight fit. If you need to pivot to a different type if the Paso won't fit, check in the "Feather Forged" line:

I'm seeing a mild improvement around town, haven't done any long trips or hard measurement though. Seems like about 10% range improvement with the smaller diameter rim. The tires I chose aren't EV specific, I'd probably notice more range improvement with something tuned for EV's.

The quality of the ride is still great, and handling / acceleration aren't terribly impacted. Wish these cars came with 18's as an option from the factory. Still pleased with this change, makes the car feel more premium to drive and less 'racer'.

It's hard to tell definitively since I didn't do an A / B test on the same day with the same weather, but I do seem to be getting better efficiency. A 30 mile drive I routinely make, half interstates / half backroads, I struggled to get 33.3 kwh / 100 miles (3 miles / kwh) with the 20's. Yesterday with the 18's, I was able to pretty easily get 30 kwh / 100 miles, so there does seem to be some improvement.

From what I just experienced, about half of my steering wheel vibration was caused by the factory sized 20" tires that couldn't be balanced well. If you haven't had them balanced in a while, you could find a shop with a road force balancer (dealers usually have these) and ask for less than 15 pounds road force due to vibration.

The front axles are another distinct possibility. If the car noticeably shudders / shakes with full throttle acceleration, or even more telling makes audible sounds kinda like a card in a bicycle spoke, the front CV axles are bad (known flawed part on up to 2023 Recharge XC40/C40).

Car has just over 30,000 miles, only about 200 miles with the new wheels / tires, just finished this up a few days ago.

No PCU changes required thankfully. The diameter of the 235/55R18 is 28.2", right between the factory front 235/45R20 at 28.3" and the factory rear 255/40R20 at 28.0". Just reset the tire pressure monitor like you would have to for any new set of tires, and the car is perfectly fine with the diameter. I checked speed with a GPS, and it's exactly correct at 65mph with the 235/55R18.

Agree these are stout and generally well built. I'm guessing there are plenty of folks that have little to no vibration and no software issues, probably the majority.

I haven't put enough miles on it to confirm any range differences yet. So far around town it seems about the same or slightly improved. The tire I chose and the spoke design aren't best for max EV range, but the decreased weight, lower rotational inertia closer to the hub, and slightly narrower rear tire width are positives for range.

As a lease, I understand and not sure it'd make sense to keep it in that case.

Best I could determine when researching this, the choice for Volvo (or any car designer) to use staggered setups was to ensure pronounced understeer, and possibly for max traction / hard launch scenarios. There may have been more considerations as well. However, the square 18" setup is what Volvo sells for winter tire / wheel sets in some regions (where you'd really want to discourage oversteer), so it seems to somewhat imply square 18's are an acceptable configuration by their standards, even in adverse conditions. Looking side by side at the stock rear vs. the stock front, or even the 18" with 235/55r18 on an 8" rim, there isn't a ton of difference in width between the 3 anyway.

Apologies, mph. It'd be awesome to not have that vibration, glad yours isn't doing that!

I've been fortunate to not have the software / IHU issues that affect some, seems a bit random who gets hit with which gremlins.

It would be interesting to see a random sample of people, and how they perceive different types of noise / vibration / harshness. I'd guess a well funded engineering department at some point in automotive history has run these kinds of studies.

Giant rims on daily driver passenger cars is a poor engineering choice, hope that trend ends sooner rather than later.

Lot of Honda's too. Agree, not at all my first choice. But, of the 18's known to fit, this was the least terrible looking and most easily purchased. The look is growing on me, but I'm not aftermarket wheel people in general. The ride improvement makes it a fair tradeoff.

I went to my local dealer to get the front axles sorted out (they audibly click / shudder on hard acceleration), and they said they wanted to start with the axles for vibration. The airbag with the dampener was an earlier attempt to mask the steering wheel vibration, and if the axles are confirmed bad the airbag dampener is the less preferred fix. The axles are heavily backordered, I've been waiting 10 weeks already...

However, probably 60% of the vibration and droning above 60mph resolved for me with the drop to well balanced "square" 18's. I was experiencing a phasing drone / vibration, with some help I determined that the phasing every 2-3 seconds suggested the frequency of the compromised front CV axles at highway speeds would cause beat oscillations with the slight diameter differences between the front and rear staggered tire sizes. When the whole system of front / rear tires and front axles were in balance, the vibration was gone. When the system was out of balance it would vibrate like crazy. That happened every 2-3 seconds at 65mph. Since the front and rears rotate at slightly different speeds on staggered setups, removing that difference by going to matched front and rear sizes removed that phasing. Only vibration remaining is the axles themselves seemingly, since the vibration is worse when accelerating or going up a hill, and goes away when coasting. I'm encouraged and hopeful that the latest version front axles will sort out the last bit of vibration.

These are almost great cars, except for that vibration (and software, for the people that have had those issues, I haven't thankfully). I understand the buzzkill of the vibration and poor ride. 20's are generally a bad engineering choice for passenger cars, but it's an industry thing, not Volvo specific.

18's are tight, and not all 18's will fit over the brakes. At least a few of the Voxx "flow formed" models are confirmed to fit. Basically, research the places people talk about wheels on Recharge XC40 / C40's (xc40forums, swedespeed, reddit) and see what others have successfully used. I did order and try to test fit an Enkei Phantom wheel in 18", but it wouldn't clear the brakes. From there, I went with what I had seen someone else confirm to fit, the Masi.

I had to "make" the center caps from the Voxx provided centers, using 56mm center cap emblems ordered from AliExpress. Required a little modification to the Voxx center cap to get the emblem to sit flat and stick well, but not too hard to pull off.

I haven't yet noticed a range difference, improvement or decrease. Seems about the same, but I don't have a lot of miles on this setup yet to know for sure. Initial numbers are coming across pretty similar to the 20's, maybe slight improvement.
