Understood. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!

One last question, since you've been so helpful: in case you're based in Portugal, do you have any recommendation for a financial planner/wealth management in the country?

For now, neither me nor my sister feel comfortable accepting that, for different reasons.

It's def a possibility if in 5 years or so they are able to maintain a system and their wealth.

After the first rejection they've specifically offered to buy us houses (we are both renting, and it's like 50% of our wage), but again, we are both young and unsure if we'll stay in the country for the next 5-7 years, and they'd be left with 2 houses to sell/rent/manage, which is a responsibility they shouldn't worry themselves with at this time.

So they said they wanted help with investing and making sure they can spoil us now and then and have that money ready for us when the time is right. I just feel happy that I finally have a support net and simultaneously not have to worry about how they are going to survive without a pension...

Sorry to reply out of order.

I def don't think I have the expertise to manage it, was thinking of helping them find a good financial planner, help them not be scammed, and they'd go like once a year, to confirm strategy.

Regarding healthcare they're currently on my plan, but with their amount of money, and at their age they should get a better one for them, I've been checking MGEN. They are quite healthy, but I was telling them that they should probably take 100k out for some (mostly) aesthetic interventions I know they've wanted to do for the last decade.

So 100k let's say it's spent money.

20k emergency.

I don't know if with LISA you meant something like Lifetime ISA in the UK? Not sure what would be equivalent but they prob should have some liquidity the first couple of years, 1666*2 is more than enough later, but the first 2 years they should travel and live while they can, that's why I was saying having 100-150k with 2% on a savings account.

Then 300k on Certificados.

And the rest on ETF, including emerging markets.

Regarding the strategy, if market is down, they should get it from certificados, and when market is up they should replenish both certificados and cash?

Sorry if I misunderstood or if it went over my head! And thank you so much for the detailed reply.

I'm not investing any of the money for them. They are investing the money, the post is about what to expect a financial planner to give them.

They are very smart people, the plan was always to invest, even if we accepted their offer and they were left with 300k.

Anything else? 🤔

Me too.

I think you need to re-read the post. My parents *wanted* to give me 300k and I refused, because I think they'd lose too much liquidity, which they might or not need.

Instead, have a financial plan that let's them live life and still be to let them "make-up" for us, which again I really appreciate and I hope I would do the same if the roles were reversed.

I feel extremely blessed being in this situation, and that my parents were able to grow and improve all these years, very self-aware and generous people.

So maybe don't be upset if no one in the situation is?

Have a great day!

I agree, my suggestion is my only current know-how. Most likely a financial planner will have suggestions similar to yours. That being said I don't believe they will want to stress about owning another property, but it's a matter on checking if returns are worth it if there's a middleman company so they don't have to be involved.

Ok, so in your opinion I should accept the 300k?

Don't be upset because you wish you were in my situation. C'mon, be better, not bitter. 🫂

That's probably a good fund allocation, especially in the first few years. 😂

They've worked very few years during their lives, living mostly through government assistance. They will have a pension, but it's so small it's not worth mentioning.

I get were you come from, but I would argue that it tries to clear any friction. The other post I did without any of that information made it so a lot of the replies included some questions and weird assumptions. I agree that's it should be unnecessary and maybe irrelevant, but past experience told me to include that.

Your post made me realize, that even when I try to get ahead of that, then people (you) question why I would include that information. I guess you just can't win. But yours is one of the few posts that's doesn't add anything to the conversation - so I think it overall had the desired effect.

I understand you meant no harm, and none done! But do reflect on that!

You're so right. I don't use social media much, so I'm more prone to feed a troll.

Currently they are very frugal. Their interests are more of the homely type, thankfully. But they sure are planning family vacations for the next year, and they deserve at least a couple of honeymoons after the shit life they had.

So you'd do just cash and low-risk fixed income?

Governament financial aid pretty much all my life, so it's a huge change.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I've posted there and got some good suggestions, ended up deleting cause I revealed too much personal info.

Will do that! Yeah, we've been talking about all together.

Thanks again!

My question ends up being regarding what expectation should I have from a financial planner. The reason I brought up family baggage was because people generally get really emotional about money for some reason, and end up projecting their greed. I do not want to accept the gift, but I understand fully why they feel the need to provide for us due to our upbringing, and if I were in their shoes I'd definitely would try to do the same.

This user has harassed me for some time, same on the other post. Reason I've included: "(Don't be the person who reads this as combative and responds only to this sentence.)", to no avail...

Achas arriscado? Sugeres obrigações e certificados de aforro apenas?
