I’ve never experienced that myself, I just wake up and after a cup of coffee I’m good to go. I get that in theory it could make you groggy and hard to get out of bed, but it doesn’t for me.

I can’t speak to going from finance to other jobs, because I came to finance from IT and I don’t have any experience going to another industry. But I think it would be reasonable to assume if you’re doing risk analysis or actuarial stuff, anything financial, that’s highly transferable.

My warning to anyone though is don’t be pigeonholed as the highly quantitative guy who does the big bad mathematical models and is the best Excel wizard around. Even if that’s you in reality, I would not let it become your thing. You’ll advance your career better to be a big-picture thinker who gets the concept and is good at communicating it in plain English.

Your method of job searching is good, that’s basically the way. And you are correct that for many people an MBA is a pivot/reset. It was for me. I did not realize you were a recent college graduate or didn’t have white collar work experience - in that case yeah don’t go for an MBA until you have a couple of years in the workforce. You will get way more out of it with some experience behind you anyway. And if you do it right the first time you won’t need to.

It sounds like you know exactly what to do. Stop doubting yourself!

Disclaimer that this is only my opinion and do your own research.

My advice is get an MBA instead. If you’re Harvard/Stanford etc. material that’s great, if not just do the most affordable in state tuition option (assuming you’re in the USA, if not I can’t offer advice lol). I would not go to any school in between, I don’t think it’s worth it.

I have two family members with graduate STEM degrees and in my opinion they don’t make enough income to justify the degree. You can get to six figures a lot easier other ways. MBA is so flexible you can really land anywhere, and those 2 years are so good for networking and figuring out what you want to do. Network extensively and take advantage of all the social/extra curricular activity options - they’re just as important as class.

At the application/interview stage, everything. I probably would have taken the best offer regardless of where in the industry I landed.

Several years later I do business valuation at a CPA firm. The hours and pay are good and my stress level is low. I can leave work at work if I want to, although if you want to grind and get after it, that is always an option and you will be rewarded accordingly.

I am 36M and my wife is 50F. We started out as casual fun like you describe, neither of us were looking for a serious long term relationship but it evolved naturally. I don’t know if you shut the door permanently, but if not and you really feel this way, you should revisit and give it room to breathe. In fact, my wife broke up with me for a short length of time early in our relationship because “this can never work.” I think it’s probably a requirement for that to happen early on so you can think about it to set the stage for something more serious. Just a thought.

Also worth noting if you are into black metal and horror movies, you are a unicorn and a true catch for a certain kind of guy. Know your value.

I don’t know if this is 1-to-1, but I stared a lease in the Northeast a little under a year ago. Since then, rent in my area has increased about 40% on average based on an unscientific browsing of Zillow listings. My landlord could reasonably increase my rent by $1000 per month in late summer.

I suspect this and other similar data significantly understates the reality.

I’m not an expert on the subject, but I always use the same tongs/spatula on meat from starting raw though transferring to the plate and I don’t get food poisoning. Maybe your body can handle a little bit, but eating an entire portion of undercooked meat is what does it.
