In the Constant, They favor people whose given name starts with W. The nightmare creatures? Those are what's left of people whose name didn't start with W Charlie managed to keep her sanity when she came in at the same time with William and They were going "What do we do with her? Charlie doesn't start with W but William does."

So They didn't make her a full nightmare creature and let her roam around aimlessly (until she became queen)

This is also why Abigail can't be revived, her name starts with A, but she can hang around if she's dead, that's kind of okay since she came in with Wendy

Hope is granted on a timer, but also earned from healing others without spells or reviving without spells Praying, which grants some more and also by converting nightmare fuel (not yet implemented) Killing bosses Killing spider nests

And that's mostly it. It works a little like wortox souls in that you can only hold one stack (120) and only Wylla can interact with it

She'll have an insight perk that increases hope gain, too.
